Good job !!!

Nice snake.

I don’t particularly like snakes, but they have a job to do, so I would always let them get on with it, unless they were a real problem or threat.

I do love your open spaces.

It would appear that a tractor with a bucket on the front could even out the approach to the dry creek. I am lazy enough that I would try it. Looks like you are making progress outside. Are you still counting 9000 steps for each hour your ride the tractor?

Dwight

You are reading my mind Dwight, I plan to tackle that first, I may see if I can find a cheap culvert somewhere to toss in and make it really easy on me. The step challenge ended in May but no I wouldn't count hours driving it, but I also get plenty of steps jumping off and moving concrete into the bucket so it would have been a wash.

Speaking of the step challenge we ended up winning against all of the close rivalries we had here, and out of 1,200 teams we finished 4th overall. I was 7th as an individual last I saw. Actual steps tracked by my phone I averaged 23,714 a day for the month and around another 21,000 earned steps a day. I have kept up some of the walking and still walk 1/2 a mile everyday after my runs but no more 4 mile walks before work.

It has made it up to a whopping $4/100. It is killing me.

I bought my dump trailer super cheap, and I figured it would get used a couple of times a month. HA. Someone is always using it. Anyone who borrows it knows if you break it you fix it, or pay me to fix it. Haven't had a single problem so far.

Going to the scrap yard and dumping it by pushing a button is soooooooo nice.

That is tough, but just like anything I'm sure it'll go back up in time. I think a dump trailer would be more useful than a dump truck, I wonder if I know someone with one close by...:fingersx:

You did a great job removing these stones.

Thank you Vieux, just like moving a mountain, one stone at a time.

Good job !!!

I grew up with a father constantly exposing me to stuff like that in nature so I knew not to be scared of them, but to also respect them. The only snakes I've killed intentionally were copper heads (venomous) that were too close to the house. Other than that I like them around, they eat mice and rats. Sort of the enemy of my enemy is my friend situation. I'm trying to convert others in my sphere of influence to understand this as well, not sure it works though.

Something I forgot to mention was this little project I made this weekend. I'm getting into making bottle openers out of various items and this is one of the designs I've made recently:
attachment.php

It is out of an old horse shoe and is pretty easy to make, but does take a bit of time to make it fit perfect on the bottle. One of the above I slightly de-burred the spend a bit of time on the buffing wheel to polish it up a touch while still leaving some character marks. The worst part is you have to perform QAQC and test each one out. My limit is making 4 right now, the quality really starts to drop off after that.

Wife and I had horses for about 20 years together and had lots of the rough stock kicking around. Your solution is way better than the coat hooks or good luck "trophies" we built back in the day.

Keep practicing and you will get your count to higher than 4 without quality dropping off!

Our best,

Ody.

He was testing each one after making them. Never leave an open beer bottle unconsumed.
There goes QA/QC!

I've made a boot rack before and a couple of coat hooks, but these are much quicker and more rewarding to use. I may have to make one polished up for me to see if I can get the Don Long look to it.

I can assure you they all work, but some are just better looking than others.

Well poop, With the way everything is going this year I doubt I'll be able to end up going on the HRPT due to a multitude of things. To help me cope with this I started to plan a quick trip to Colorado this weekend, blast out Friday and come back Sunday just to enjoy the mountains and come back Sunday. So I thought I'd do a quick job on the cobra to get it more ready, that is where the adventure begins.

I decided to pull the intake off on the cobra to install the proper intake manifold gaskets like the ones I used to do the porting. To my surprise this is what I found:
attachment.php

The lifter looked fine and I don't know what caused it for sure. :headscrat Strangely the exhaust side push rod was loose, pulled the valve cover to find the bolt for the rocker on the exhaust was in fact loose. :headscrat That push rod was straight as an arrow, but the lifter wouldn't come out of the bore, and after looking at the photo now I see it is further in the bore than the other lifters riding on the base circle of the cam. I think that means I have a lifter or cam lobe eating each other.

Now I'm in a predicament, I can get a push rod and throw it back together and make the run to Colorado but the engine will be eating itself alive the entire time. I assume the cam is shot now and won't be able to save it so I see maybe costing an additional set of bearings if I run it, but could I also be destroying everything that needs oil? When the oil returns to the pay and is picked up it first goes through the pump then into the filter so all of the bearings are getting "clean" oil.

So...throw it together and send it, or live to fight another day and get the materials to rebuild the engine...again?

Live to fight another day! A catastrophic failure far from home is a miserable situation to be in...& add the current wackiness to the mix makes for a true PITA. Do the cam swap (I’d honestly **** it up and do a hydraulic roller cam conversion) and check the filter & oil for amount of shavings.

Hell, With your work ethic, you could still be done by Friday :)

JB, that is a bummer. Unless you want to scrap this setup and start over, I'd recommend tearing it down and finding out where the issue is. Also agree on the roller cam setup. Load your wife and girls up in a Jeep and have another fun adventure!

That ***** for sure JB but I agree with Npled, a failure (catastrophic or not) is much easier to accept and deal with at home than away from home on vacation.

You'll get it sorted and be able to get back to enjoying it soon enough I'm sure.

You could follow Marc's advice and pick another toy to play with but if you're anything like me (I hope you're not) then it will be hard to relax knowing you have something you should be dealing with at home.

You have to decide if you want to be broke down at home or in the middle of the interstate. Or with things the way they are, in the middle of an ANTIFA march!

Parts availability is the biggest thing hurting me right now, nothing in stock around here and most stuff won't get here until Thursday. That would put me doing all of this Thursday night and not getting enough sleep for the 10 hour drive Friday. I know I left the towel somewhere, time to throw it in I suppose. At this point it isn't worth the risk to try to make it happen for just a fun weekend. The S10 AC is charged and ready, just needs a wash.

I'm torn, I think I'm done with this setup in complete honesty, not worth putting another $1,000 in something I wanted to replace anyway. Sadly the girls can't go because Mama has to work and wouldn't want them going without her.

Oops missed ya'll, as I mentioned above, the S10 is ready just a touch dirty. The time away may give me a bit to think about what I want to do with it. I REALLY want to put a 7.3L super duty gas engine in, but I'm struggling to fine just an engine to buy.

A/C is certainly a big plus!

But on the Cobra engine dilemma...I don’t think you’d enjoy the big motah (read HEAVY) in the Cobra. It’s going to throw off the drivability, handling & braking quite a lot...just my 2¢ though.

I'd considered that but the new 7.3L is an iron block with aluminum heads and from a video I'd seen previously it isn't really a big block, slightly larger than the 351w though. I haven't been able to find weight on them yet though.

*Update* According to this video:
7.3L Godzilla Ford V8 WOT Dyno Pulls Hear It Roar! How Much Power? Engine Weight Revealed

It says the 7.3L weighs 538 lbs (244.1 kg), and an aluminum headed 428 stroked 351w based engine weighs 471 lbs (213.7 kg). The 67 pounds (30.4 kg) weight penalty isn't 0 but better than an FE big block at 650 lbs (294.9 kg) or 460 based at 720 lbs (326.7 kg). [The other two engine weights were from the old google.

Should be a fun toy to play with, and just like everything, I could always change back. Now if only it didn't look so much like a new engine, I'd have to do something about that.

Well **** on the Cobra motor/no HRPT this year.

Would love to see you try and put the 7.3 in the Cobra though. Sounds like a crazy fun project.

You’ve always got a tag along out here when your in town ( or a garage to work on things if needed), but I’d sit this one out with the cobra. My C/10 LS restomod just ate its hydramat. But I can fix that after work tomorrow

I forgot to mention the SBF they weighed had aluminum heads whereas mine are still cast iron, that weight penalty will end up near negligible. :3gears: Now if I can only find one...

I am kinda sad about it too, at this point there is too much telling me I won't be able to go with any vehicle. Now the cobra eating it's engine makes me believe the car is done with SBF's, it wants something more.

Also I kinda know the answer, but it would have been way cooler if the engine they used was 7.0L rather than 7.3L, think how cool that would be to have a new modern 427 Ford engine to put in.

hahahahahahaha

Glad someone caught that. haha

Yeah the writing is just on the wall sadly, oh well I now have more time to work at home on other projects.

I thought for sure there'd be a crowd of "LS guys" in here this morning calling for you to "LS swap it", "LS swap the world", "get a real motor in there", etc. Im hearing crickets though. Im not a chevy guy, but its always entertaining to see that group in social media and forums.

The LS platform is definitely awesome. But a Cobra deserves a blue oval engine...haha, don't hate on us LS swappers! :lol_hitti

There are plenty here, but they aren't too loud in this forum. I do love my LS S10 though, in fact I drove it today.

Outlaw,
Don't tell XJ I was planning to LS swap it and make it look like a SBF until Ford came out with the 7.3 Godzilla engine. Now if only I could find one.

Hey JB, you could always throw an LS in it.....

Sorry, I just had to say it.:lol_hitti

I knew I should've kept my mouth shut lol! I do like your jeep swap Mike, but I'm not a fan of the guys who preach it on everything. Need to change the sparkplugs in your car? "LS swap it!" is their response.

Cobras deserve blue ovals for sure. Even the replicas.

I'm a GM guy through and through but know what you mean about those who say LS swap everything. It get's old hearing it over and over. I too would stay with the Blue oval, even though it pains me.:lol_hitti

Yeah there are some that go a little too far with it, but they are great engines and their size and fitment make them very easy to package in many situations. I'd considered some of the other newer Ford engines but the overhead cam engines were just too wide for my engine bay, I'd spend all of that money to get one and don't know if I could even get the headers on it. That would make me very angry.

I've found a few wrecked Super Duty's for sale with the 7.3 but they are all auctions and the end date it still pretty far out there. I talked to a Ford dealership and can get the complete engine throttle body to manifolds, wiring harness and computer for $10,500. HpTuners is capable of tuning them to remove VATS so that part is handled. I just struggle to justify spending that much when I don't know for sure yet if I'll be able to bolt an existing clutch to one or will have to have something custom made. In time I suppose it'll all work out. I've heard a saying that goes something like this:
Person one: I have a big problem
Person two: What is that?
Person one: I blew the engine in my car.
Person two: That stinks can you fix it with time and money?
Person one: Well yeah.
Person two: Then you don't have a problem.

GO back about 4000 posts. I already told him I had a 6.0l and a 4l80e. HE declined saying something about the ford being "more reliable" or something like that, I think.

I gotta admit, although I'm a GM guy, although I'm a fan of most all engine manufacturers in the proper application. I totally understand and support the purist approach on certain vehicles trying to keep them brand specific, even if it's a brand I don't care for.:lol_hitti I also feel that sometimes a manufacturer will put the incorrect engine in their vehicle because they simply don't have another option or better option and that's when it is important to do one's homework and pick the best powertrain for the application. Hence the Jeep JK Wrangler......:bounce:

More than anything I just like giving ****. My cousin is a Ford guy to the core much like I am a GM guy. We both text each other back and forth memes depicting the other's poor choice in loyalty but it's all in good fun.

I'm right there with you Mike, the big three have made poor choices in engine selection many times. The Wrangler J*U without a V8, especially the Gladiator without one is way up there in my book.

My loyalty to brands sways depending on what I'm driving at that point in time, I claim I'm a GM guy, but I have 4 Fords right now. (Granted two of them don't currently run.) :lol_hitti I enjoy giving people **** on their choice and then my buddy points out I'm driving the same thing and we all laugh.

Every manufacturer has good and bad engines. Everyone dogs on the 2.8l v6 that GM built, but I have one with 850k on it before my son totaled it.

My old 94 Suburban had a 5.7l with 750k on it. The last 60k it knocked horribly, but it ran

I had an S15 with the 2.8 in high school, that thing was gutless, but man that was a pimpin' truck. :pimpflash I may find a photo of it somewhere and will share it with you guys.

I've never had anything with over 307k miles on it before, maybe in time.

As much as I’m a GM fan, I’d HATE to see an LS in the cobra. I guess I.m old school ( is that possible in your late 40’s?) I LOVE to see brand specific motor/car combos.

Roadkill guys love this one, might be time to bite the bullit. Should be enough.

https://blueprintengines.com/produc...ll-block-ford-longblock-carburetor-bpf4088ctc

I know what you mean, and really want to get a 7.3 in and running, but still haven't been able to find one. I'm sure in time I will. In fact I've had trouble getting any response from someone on the engines I'd like to use, someone just take my money!

I'm sure that engine would be a complete riot in the cobra, it would also lead to breaking my 3rd transmission in it. How can I be tired of spending money on it and at the same time ready to spend more on it?

Playing a little catch up here, not much time so I'll try to go quick. First of all Herb sent me a couple of plates that I like for some reason:
attachment.php

I tossed one on the front of the S10 since these aren't real plates and I don't have to have real plates on the front in Oklahoma. With everything going on this year and so much moving around I'm not confident I'll be able to go on the Hot Rod Power Tour. Combine that with Alex potentially deploying for 6-9 months starting in a few weeks we decided to make a quick trip to Colorado, his photos are much better but I have these. We found an F-14 Tomcat beside the road:
attachment.php

Made it to Colorado:
attachment.php

Found this little diner but sadly had just eaten:
attachment.php

Part of the reason we stopped was there was a Pink Cadillac on a stick, I didn't realize it at first be it was actually spinning, it takes 30 or so minutes to make one round:
attachment.php

Didn't have any sandy beaches but did find the top of this mountain:
attachment.php

When we started to head home I was pretty happy to have working AC and cruise control:
attachment.php

I missed the cobra but I was comfortable and that made up for some of it. All in all a fun weekend and got to try a bunch of good beer from all over the place. Sadly the girls couldn't go because Mama can't take a day off so it was just us boys playing hooky.
