Nice cheater bar on the pipe wrench JB. I had one just like that a few months ago and we had to use the bucket of a skid steer to add a little more force to get the job done.

I like the B too.

If that cheater bar didn't work I would have just called it a day. I was more scared the Harbor Freight pipe wrench was going to break but I'm thoroughly impressed with it especially for only $19 after discount.

Oh and as usual no photos of driving today still. :rocker:

now you can leave 20 minutes later, and kick the cobra in the *** and still get there on time. Just need to watch for deer, armadillos, opossums.

Hurry up and prove it isn't broken again.

Fine, here is the best I can do to prove it, my watch with yesterdays date on it:

A clearer photo of it on the road, maybe I'll clean it up...maybe I won't:

I drove Lever Action today so I can pick up an auger, I didn't make it faster than normal. Speaking of they just raised the speed limit on the road to work to 75 MPH (120.7 KPH those of you in a county that hasn't put a man on the moon. :)) (Yes I know some countries use MPH and haven't been to the moon.) I did see 2 foxes, an armadillo, a raccoon, and a opossum while on my run this morning.

Other random stuff, Speed Demon set a new wheel driven piston engine car to an average of 470 MPH (750 KPH). Mad respect to all involved in that.

The next best shot would have been a selfie with my mask in front of the store getting school supplies for the girls. But I didn't think about that.

Not much to report, did a little cleaning in the shop but also got a little extra sleep, enjoyed sleeping in both weekend days. I felt pretty lazy doing it but sometimes sleeping until 5:30 is good to help recharge. :rocker:

I spent most of the time out working on the yard at both my place and Alex's while he is gone, that turns into a 14 hour work day pretty quick if you don't split it up.

In other news I took Lil Miss Cat for a ride on the Ol' B:
attachment.php

Time flies, the last time she went for a ride she was 4.5 years ago:
attachment.php

Yeah I need to not let that happen again. The B is back inside with a battery tender on it again keeping things ready for the next trip out.

Some of my favorite memories are sitting on the edge of the seat of a rowcrop 2cylinder Deere as Dad drove with me sitting there in front of him. Then later trying to steer it with literally all of my bodyweight since there's no power steering. I guarantee you your daughters won't forget rides like that. So much more going on to watch compared to a ride in a car.

No joke more is going on, so much to twist, move, adjust, brake with both feet, clutch, steer, shift, never boring. She seemed to enjoy it but toward the end started getting scared when we turned around so wanted off to run back to the house. She was faster than I was. haha

I can still feel the shifter knob clacking against the side of knee when Dad would yank the G from one gear to another and I didn't have my legs out of the way. Ouch

She'll be driving it by herself in no time.

Ouch, that doesn't sound too much like fun, but I'm sure you learned quick.

Another memories pic, that will outlast many others.

Nice post

Time will tell I'm sure, it was a fun time.

Had a nice little morning in the shop today, I finely found someone selling some leather seat covers for the rear seats for The Lemon, old:

New installed and this one took 21 minutes per the time stamps:

Lastly all installed:

Hour and 15 minutes start to finish. I also installed a new subwoofer in an old box after blowing another of my old speakers. I sure love the sound of some good bass sometimes. :rocker:

When turned up it'll make your teeth rattle, I keep it around 25% of that lol.

It was beautiful up here this morning JB, I had 58* on the rearview on my way into town.

The only reason I like leather is the easy cleanup! Velour "feels" better.

Loved the B picture, those are the kind of memories she will cherish in her adulthood. Great to see the Cobra out and about! I have an 8" sub setup in the 'burb, it has been in 5 different vehicles now...its an older Boston Accoustic competition setup that I bought on a closeout sale. Just the right amount of thump when I need it.

Easier to wipe snot and dog footprints from.

So a decent alternative.

Yes, much easier cleanup, if I decide I don't want to use them then I can always put the cloth back on, it'll only take a few hog rings and a couple hours. But I don't spend time in the back seat anymore unless I'm working on the stereo.

I really have enjoyed the weather lately, low 60°F range all week at night. Cloth does typically feel better, but a nice soft leather like in the '95 C1500 and the lower scrotal vent working properly is a magical feeling. :rocker:

I have a set of 12" Sony P5 subs and a Sony P5 amp that I bought in 2004 give or take that I've used, at least one brother has used and I have in Lever Action now. I guess that amount of bass skewed my view on "right amount of thump" now. I don't listen to loud music often but then on occasion I'll crank it up for a couple songs then realize I'm not 18 anymore and turn it back down. Lots of air moving with these new subs and amps though, very impressive for ~$400 into everything from receiver to sub box. I think I paid that for just the subs in '04 and they can't handle half of what this one will.

Couple of cool things happened yesterday, first of all after the first drive on the cobra after this engine rebuild I knew I heard an exhaust leak but couldn't locate it as the engine gets pretty warm pretty quick. Well I fired it up yesterday and pretty sure I found it:
attachment.php

What ***** is this is the same place it has broken two other times, obviously it is under some stress there. The right fix would be to cut it out and build a new piece. What I did instead because of time constraints:
attachment.php

Dear lord please forgive me for I have sinned. I'm taking it on a trip this weekend but will be back Sunday, hope it holds. :dunno:

In other sad news I've lost even more faith in our state department of transportation. Why would they even consider issuing this plate to me:
attachment.php

But here I am rocking it, hope it doesn't get impounded.

That plate is amazing. That failure is weird, you wouldn't think that primary would be under any more stress than the rest unless something was yoinking the header off to the side. Maybe weld in a support from that primary to another when you're fixing it?

Amazing, how does that even happen?!

Not sure how they approved the plate, but I'll obviously take it, some of the most enjoyment I've gotten out of $25.

It is under stress when install cold and when heated up it only gets worse. The sidepipe is nearly ridged mounted to the frame near the back with just a tiny amount of wiggle room in the rubber bushing clamp. Needs a lot of design work to fix...or a cheap beer can. :eyecrazy:

JB,
Tha header pipe isn't going to hold unless you use a Coors Light can. :bounce:
I like the new plate... Michigan doesn't have much of a sense of humor on license plates.

Well to be fair, they probably looked at the make and model and agreed.

I actually didn't have the plate number for the Festiva when I applied but did for the '57 so it is registered for the '57 but I can use it on any of my cars/trucks

Natty Light doin’ work!!!

I had it around, in hindsight I should have used one of the microbrew cans as they are thicker. Oh well, time will tell if it holds.

Now you tell me, I could have found a few of those I'm sure, but they would have been tall boys. LOL

I didn't expect to get it in the mail either, but sure enough.

Your new plate made me smile. Totally surprised that it was issued tho! :bounce:

Sometimes you just get lucky I guess. Now I'll probably get pulled over for it and have a fine and the cop takes the plate. :wtf:

Ah so the mount of the sidepipe torques the pipe outward when mounted? Bummer, I'm sure sidepipes add a lot of complexity because you don't really want them bouncing around and hitting paintwork.

Yes, that is the biggest part of it, it really comes down to they need to be rebuilt, but I don't really want to get into that until after driving season is over.

Last weekend I took the cobra for it's first official long test drive, I went to the other side of STL to visit a couple friends and enjoy some fun cars. Early morning start:
attachment.php

Due to closed roads I ended up driving 30 miles extra on the way there, total for the weekend was 1,105 miles (1,770 km). As usual I tracked my fuel stops and I averaged 14.69 mpg. :scared: I'd say the plate is getting more appropriate. The buddy I visited has a small farm/ranch and needed to replace the water pump on his Ford tractor:
attachment.php

Went really easy and took less than an hour including beverage breaks. I thought I'd gotten pictures but he has a '68 Camaro with a 350 and a '74 Nova with a very healthy 454. Any time we would make trips we would drive all three, because why enjoy 25 mpg in one car when you can get 14 in 3 cars. :rocker:

Earlier this week I changed the oil in my wife's Jeep, while it drained I gave it a once over. I rarely ride in it but the list time we did I could tell it needed shocks, I was surprised to find this though:
attachment.php

She plans to get some of the Bilstein 5100's which I've heard a lot of good things about, time will tell though.

Wow JB, I figured it would do a little better than that....high teens on the hwy would have been my guess. :dunno:

Maybe she was doing some crawling and didn't want the shock binding when she was at full flex?:eyecrazy:

Before it only got 16-17, and this trip I may have given it a little more gas than normal a few times. :3gears: I also kept it at around 80 for a majority of the trip and was still passed by a lot of people.

No worries about binding now, I just hope it doesn't tear up the bolt, I'd hate to have to dig around to find a replacement. LOL

This weekend was pretty interesting, took of Friday after work to pick up a bale spike or bale spear for the tractor to move round bales if the need arises. Pretty cheap and well built:
attachment.php

But when I went to stop near the house the brakes didn't give me confidence:
attachment.php

Yep broke a brake line, looks like I have another project on my hands. Unfortunately I had just filled the tank with fuel and it has to come out to replace this line...or use the tractor to pull the bed. :rocker:

I got distracted and am just now to the point to pull the bed but the tractor is in the pasture where I'm digging holes for a deer stand I want to build. I'll try to get more photos to show other stuff from this weekend, but I had nearly 20,000 steps a day from all of the running around.

I think that with that many steps that running around is a good description. Sunrise on the road looks great.

oh no Mr Bill....I'm glad you made it home, thats why its good to have dual MC.

Which makes me wonder why the brakes were so bad when just the rear was leaking, surely the fronts should have stopped it just fine. I wasn't driving fast but it just seemed off either way. I haven't been doing much on it, the tractor is in the pasture digging holes for a deer blind I'm building and will stay until I get all the holes dug and posts installed.

Dwight

I rarely sit still especially if the weather is below 100°F (38°C) or above 32°F (0°C). I just slow down a good bit if it gets cold. It was a great sunrise that morning, one of the cool parts of the trip were when I'd hit low points/valleys that morning it would be noticeably cooler, then when I crested a hill and hit warm humid air my windshield would instantly fog over. Really neat experience I can't ever remember having before.

Oh cool, thanks for the heads up E, and funny enough this will be the 4,000th post. It should be full of some cool exciting news or a wonderful project completion but no, just some rambling.
