I typically do the same thing, sadly this was the last for this car so I do need to order a new one and all of the idlers, tensioner, and might as well do the timing belt, tensioner, water pump...

JB

JB, having done the timing belt swap on that particular type of car, yes...do it all while you're in there! I still have my custom made tool to time/lock the cams when doing the job.

I will probably end up doing that this winter, the belt looks okay for now but I know it is getting close and I am about to hit 205,000 miles (330,000 km) so it is due. I have my "custom" tool too, it just so happens to look and function more like a file most times. :lol_hitti

That is the one.

Probably. Thats the big one. Theres a basspro over in Altoona, but Sheels would be more likely to carry that I think.

I knew ya'll would get me straightened out, it was a cool store, wish I had more time and money to spend sometime.

Lotta people love Scheels. I don't really shop there, I can get anything they have at other stores. They are the next closest thing to a Cabelas/BassPro. Sportsmans Warehouse or FleetFarm typically get my money first, probably just out of convenience, though sometimes pricing.

First time I've ever been to one, the three big stores I go to anymore are Ace Hardware, (I can buy Grade 8 bolts by the pound.) Tractor Supply, and probably Harbor Freight. I don't shop with HF as much any more, many of the consumeables I get higher quality online for not much more, and I've bought most of the tools I want already that they offer.

I used to be really big into hunting and fishing but didn't get to for nearly a decade before moving back to the country. I'm starting to get back into it a bit but just can't spend the time out hunting like I used to be able to.

Yes please on Grade 8's by weight! None of the local stores do that around here anymore, for any of the grades....:dunno:

Same here on hunting and fishing. Wife/Kids slow some of that stuff down until the kids hit a certain age. Where I grew up I could hunt about 25 square miles of country...I don't have that here in NE KS!

You are missing out, it is hugely cheaper to buy it that way. If I buy metric and fine thread in enough volume they will do that too, but that ends up being many hundreds of dollars to get there. I haven't bought much lately but think it is less than $4/lb for Grade 8.

I probably only had a couple hundred acres I could hunt then, and only have my 40 now so I'm pretty limited for the time being.

I made it back from a more successful Gambler 500 event. This one was called the Okie Gambler 500 and it took place at Big Fox Run near Cameron, OK. I left the house to get there around 11 and ended up being the first to arrive:
attachment.php

On the way the timing worked out and I stopped near Tulsa to meet the seller of what is now my first mini bike:
attachment.php

It is an off brand with a 3.5 hp 105cc engine that the previous owner had removed the governor to give it a little more pep on the top end. I really enjoyed riding it and it even won me a pulled pork sandwich when they had the official mini bike race. I didn't get any photos of the actual race but I did get someone to snap a photo of me collecting my prize:
attachment.php

The BBQ truck from Smoking Pig BBQ came out for the weekend and wow, it was some of the best I've ever had, highly recommend them and will order again if I'm ever in the same area they are again. I love the little mini bike, I didn't clock myself but it'll get close to 25mph (40kph) on a long stretch. It wasn't the fastest bike out there but lucky for my my strategy paid off and I was the first to cross the finish line, well that and the fastest bike fell on the turn giving me the win. :3gears:

The second vehicle to arrive was my driver in the Mo Gambler in the Tankovan:
attachment.php

One of the next people to arrive was this awesome cummins swapped Suburban with not one, not two, but three turbo's:
attachment.php

The first night was spent socializing and helping change tires on a set of rims I donated to a fellow gambler in need. It was cool to see 4 of us fighting to get a snow tire on a 14" rim that had once lived on my little Green Dragon. I also took the Chitbox on a trip around the park and found a little mud, it held up well but I decided to put the street tires on because of how much we would be driving in paved roads, this is the first waypoint:
attachment.php

The second stop was at a nice overlook of some nice rolling hills:

Then it was just drive from way point to way point clicking along the trail:

We lucked out and got to a lunch spot serving cajun food, I had alligator tacos, yum:
attachment.php

Everything was going okay other than having a tough time seeing through the dust on gravel roads. Eventually one of the points was on core land that wasn't well maintained and had some deep mud and rock holes, this was an optional hole I didn't want to try with the street tires:
attachment.php

Leaving that spot is where I started my troubles. Going through the biggest of the holes I got a little water on the coil wire that killed the car momentarily but I dried it out and ready to go again, or so I thought. I was getting close to a half tank as we got onto some pavement again, a few miles down the road I looked down and saw E on the gauge as I was about to pass a gas station, pulled in and filled up but the car didn't want to start and still read E on the gas gauge. :dunno:

Turns out the alternator didn't like being dowsed in muddy water and quite on me. We put on jumper cables and it started right up, but the battery was only reading 10.8 volts when running so no go. Let it charge while I called around parts stores looking for another to find out the closest one was 3 hours away in Oklahoma City. No go, another car followed me back to camp stopping/dying every 10-15 miles to recharge. Good news is I have a spare on the old car so no money out of my pocket for this one, time for a skid plate and shield I think though.

Back at camp I finely got to see this:

Miata on a Samari chassis I believe, it handled the weekend pretty well all in all.

The Chitbox was tagged as well but was too dirty to really see when I got home.

Cat got to sit on the mini bike and really wants to learn to ride it:

I also finished the last two posts for the fence on Sunday until I get the tractor running again then I have 4 more to set before a gate, post cross supports, then finely wire. Doesn't look like I'm going to get the barn done before winter sadly. I'll do the best I can and keep working on it but not sure about putting the roof on when it is too cold out. May give me an excuse to put up three more poles and make it 20x60 rather than 20x48 currently. :rocker:

Looks like fun, but if someone spray painted my truck Id have to shoot em. F that. Chitbox, sure! Cooler, sure! But don't touch my tow rig.

Gamblers are wild, mostly. My buddies have done two in Iowa and one was crazy and one was boring I guess. Maybe next year Ill have the Jeep ready and can provide support.

I don't want to shoot myself, I painted the truck. :p For the most part everyone is respectful, I try to stay toward the edge to keep from some accidental mishaps and call it quits early. The truck is beat and very rusty on the bed and body even more so. Yes if someone would have done that without me asking I would have been ticked for certain.

The Mo one was pretty quiet were I camped, but 100 yards down they were up until 3 both nights. I had a much better time at the Okie I think mostly because even though I failed to finish I knew it would be a free easy fix so relaxed and socialized a bit more. If you can make one I recommend going sometime. It is surprising how many people will drive tens of hours to get to them, some even driving their gamblers the entire way.

That burb is awesome

I thought you would enjoy that one, I'll try to get some more photos of it if I see it at the Kansas Gambler. It is fast too from what others were saying.

Looks like you had a good time JB, thanks for sharing!

It was a blast, I'm going to try and convince my wife to join me for the Kansas one since it is close enough she could stay at home and still join for the day rather than camp.

Last night I decided to finish the railing on my deer stand, well in the process of getting back there I kept running across armadillos digging in my yard, the new shotgun was called into action. In the end there are three less of them that will be digging in my yard, that is 4 total in less than a week. I sure hope that is all of them, they sure make a mess of things.

In other news I pulled the alternator off of the Chitbox (right) and the other Festiva (left):
attachment.php

It is interesting how different they are from each other, I ran out of time before I could install the other one, I'll try to get this one rebuilt before I go to another event. Also sad how the working alternator looks like it has been in an oil drum for a week and the bad one is just slightly dirty. :dunno:

I know I have been very busy, but sure don't seem to have any photos to show, must mean I didn't actually do anything. :wtf: With cold weather rolling in I have been focusing on finishing the fence, which means getting the tractor running better. The carb rebuild kit came in last week, I rebuilt it and it runs exactly the same. I was able to finish the last of the fence posts more or less at least though and parked it next to the shop with a trickle charger on it.

With the posts set it was time to install the gate, drilling 12" deep holes is so much quicker with a battery powered drill than it was with a brace and bit like I used last time...15 or so years ago now. When I went to install the hinges though they weren't long enough to go through and have adjustment room to level the gate, so it was time to cut and weld:
attachment.php

Luckily the threads were the same as a couple bolts I had in my bolt bins and it was as easy as bevel, clamp, and weld. I didn't worry about threading the welded area because of how big the hinge post was, close up of the weld, I'm not ashamed of them for once:
attachment.php

Well gate is mounted, cross bars are mostly in, and working the tension braces when dark it so I called it a day on Sunday. It has been sleeting, windy, and cold ever since sadly. Also it has been a rough few days at work and I worked most of Saturday meaning no progress at home.

Keep moving forward,
JB

We have been having some rough weather the past few days and yesterday it turned into a bit of ice. I went home early and we had only lost a few limbs but nothing major. I took the opportunity to trim some of the low hanging limbs and cut some weight off to hopefully save the bigger limb if things got worse. Then took the mini bike out for a spin:
attachment.php

It is fun, but doesn't like ice, mud, and water. :3gears: I went down to a neighbors place that is growing cotton this year which is odd for this area it provided some cool photos:

Even the Bronco III looked kinda cool covered in ice:

Last fun photo was of the Jeep just sitting around chilling:

We are forecast for near 40°F (6°C) today so it should melt, but they also anticipate 2.5" of rain.

My step-daughter is temporarily living in Lawton and she was telling us about the tree branches breaking off and landing in the road last night.

I shared this picture with her last night from an ice storm that hit my hometown in 1976. We were without power for 7 days from all the downed power lines.

Need more on the mini bike.

Looks as cold as Andy said it was.

Brrrrr

Temperature wise it wasn't too bad for us, just below freezing but was no fun to work in. The bike is a Monster Moto brand 105cc that makes 3.5hp. It is fun to tootle around on but needs more power and clutch.

You can't pick very much cotton when them cotton bolls get rotten.
In the old cotton fields back home.

Vince

I hope it works out for them, if not I hope they had insurance. The cotton that was grown here last year wasn't picked until after Thanksgiving. The cotton fields I worked in were on the verge of being picked early September depending on how the fiber growth was going when we tested them. Fun thought, the fibers continue to get thicker even after it is defoliated late summer.

We had one when I was in high school that helped me make some good money cutting up limbs and carrying them away. Also it made one heck of a bon fire a few weeks later. :scared: The worst one for my parents was in 2009, they lost power for 3 weeks and others in the area were out for 5 weeks due to so many broken poles. Glad I missed that one.

I've been to Lawton a few times, picked my brother up from the base there the day I interviewed for the job I have now. If something happens I'm about 3 hours away.

Busy as can be, spent most of Saturday and all of Sunday working around the place, all limb from the ice storm are now gone and burned up with a little extra firewood as a small bonus.

When it came time to stretch the wire for the fence I could have use a come-a-long but instead decided to be a little lazy:
attachment.php

Because there are 2 sets of corner post and a gate it required stretching the fence from 4 locations. I parked the pink Jeep here for the first pull, then used Lever Action for the other 3 so I didn't have to get my muddy boots in the Jeep. After many many hours it was pretty much done other than some wire ties and insulators for the two hot wires:
attachment.php

Lastly I went to look at a project/investment that I'll keep as a bit of a secret for now, but I was presently surprised to find out the engine was bigger than expected:
attachment.php

Any guesses?

I've never heard of anyone refer to a boat as an investment lol.

My guess is its farm related. Apparently gas-powered, but it could be a farm truck with a balebed.

Or....another Festiva so he can build a fleet of gamblers for the family. :lol_hitti
