More work on the tractor, I picked up some bucket teeth I wanted to mound to help it cut a little better when trying to get some work done, to start I needed to straighten the bucket a bit, so out comes the torch and rosebud:
attachment.php

This area I just wanted to look a little better. I could have done more but was running low on acetylene:
attachment.php

A bit better anyway:
attachment.php

Then after what seemed like hours of fitting and welding the teeth were all installed, I also installed a couple hooks and a ring to help with some jobs:
attachment.php

Oh that is right, it was hours, that was another of my two days off, at least it was productive. Last weekend between mowing and such I cut down about a dozen trees in the pasture, mostly locust trees with nasty thorns that will cause infection if poked. I know this because of the infection I have in my arm from doing just that. Used the truck to get them close to a pile then the ol JD 4010 with bucket and teeth finished the job:
attachment.php

Man that was so much easier than doing it by hand cutting in small pieces and stacking it up to get ready to burn. Well that pretty much brings us up to date other than some small vehicle, mower, mini-bike, and go cart maintenance that really wasn't photo worthy.

Keep Moving Forward,
JB

What do you mean sell the jeep for something more fun? I am confused, there is nothing more fun than a jeep...:wtf:

I warned you about the horses....

If it happens, which is a huge long shot and would take lots of government paperwork it will be way more fun than this Jeep and more valuable if done correctly. :bigun2:

Do I have to say it?!

GODZILLA TIME!

Well it will be when the engine arrives in 3.5 more months, transmission should be here in 1.5 months, then I need to build everything to make it work. It is being built in Texas at Mast Motorsports, should be in the 600-650 hp range but I'm having them port the heads so that should bump it up a tick or two. :pimpflash

With that set-up, it will be a lot like gitupnspin. :p But still a lot of fun pushing on the loud pedal.

That is sure will, and a lot of fab work ahead of me, it'll be a huge project and probably take a very long time from start to complete. I have to make new headers from scratch, and probably new side pipes as well. Oh and not to mention the $$$, ouch the money. I really need to get busy selling stuff to be able to afford this.

I hope all of the mothers out there had a good Mother's Day, I spent mine mostly with the wife and daughters eating and hanging out. I did squeeze in some shop time early in the morning and on Saturday though. I have almost all of the trees cleared out of one pasture with just a couple of stumps and one that will be a bear to remove left. I also started pulling the transmission on Lever Action but didn't take any photos for you yet. Lastly I was asked by a co-worker to come take some trash off of his property, this is what it was:

Sadly I don't even know what it is, I know Argo is the big name in amphibious 6x6 vehicles but don't believe this is one. I can't find any name plates or data tags that can be read. The engine is locked up, all of the chains are seized, and only one tire will take air for a very short period of time before deflating again. It might just be a pile of junk but maybe I can find the time to play with it and get it running again. :dunno:

Yes do, it could be a fun vehicle.
Too bad you are so far away, you could send it to me. I'd enjoy it!

And the price was right, not only was it free but he let me try some of his home brew.

Looking up some information last night I discovered they actually race these, that looks awesome and dangerous.

The early ones like that are supposedly more desirable to the 6x6/8x8 crowd because of the unknowns and small numbers they were originally built in. Memory is a bit rusty, but I think Stacy David did a segment on one on his show "Gears".

Sweet little toy.

I've wanted one since I was a kid...that and a half-track! Haha, don't know why, but I "need" one!

Outlaw, I know I really wanted one when I was a kid as well, but obviously didn't have the $$$ to get one then. Turns out I just had to wait 25 years and get one for free. I hope I can catch up on a few other things and justify working on this some.

XJ, I think you are right about Stacy working on one. There is a surprisingly big community out there for them, I requested to join a FB group and hope they can help identify which one it is. I know it would be fun to just putter around on. Of course I could go full me and install a big motorcycle engine in it. :3gears:

I think the karma gods are trying to make up for your horrible misfortune getting a pregnant hayburner(horse) so you get some fun new toys to even it out. That definitely looks like fun... not a much fun as the new poweplant in the Cobra... but still fun!

WELCOME BACK!! looks like you've already figured out the Cobra needed some of your overtime pay too and best of luck with that. now that you know that old engine and it's spot in your sleep maybe you can get that old one out and the new one in without breaking a sweat.

i've also seen you build a go cart from scraps so very curious to see how you set up that 6 wheeler. i'm betting your girls and their friends will have that as their go to fun mobile once you get it up and running so best of luck trying to get any time driving it yourself once you get it spiffed up.

I hope you are eating well cause all that work doesn't sound like much sleep at all. take care of you so you'll have time to enjoy the fruits of your labors later.

cheers!!

What ecm are you going to use on the 7.3? Or are you going to go carb?

That 6x6 is cool, I enjoyed all 225 pages of your build for sure.
MrPink,
Wow, I can't believe you read all of my mental dribble, but congrats to you sir. I look forward to playing with it at some point in the near future
The 6-wheeler looks like a fun project... go for it!
I'll give it the ol college try I suppose, it'll get a new engine for certain.
.

6x6

This thread just shifted gear.

I hear a turbo whining.
I don't think I'm ready to try a turbo swap on it, but that would be fun for a few minutes.
If you get that 6X6 running then you will need to build a big pond to drive it in.... :D :D :3gears:

LynnW
I have a little pond now to play with it in and a creek running through our place. I would love a bigger pond, but I would need to buy a dozer to justify that. Hmmm....
Cool argo.
I found out it is actually a Scrambler 6, not many of these still out there but there are a few. Parts will be the toughest thing to find as I dig more into it.

I'm sure I'll have a blast, I just hope it doesn't end up at the bottom of our pond, time will tell tough.

Thanks Drives, I wasn't back long before taking a few days off to do a little fishing in the Gulf, more on that later. As for using part of the OT for the engine, you are slightly off, I'm using all of the OT plus the money from selling the Jeep and probably the S10 as well to get it all paid for. Ouch!

I think they will be more likely to drive this than they would the go cart, they were frightened of it. It may be getting sold as well, I really just need to pair down what I have to work on so I can play a little more.

The control system is coming from Mast Motorsports, they call it their "New LST style Engine Controls Package", I should be able to tweek on it with HP Tuners. I wouldn't mind doing a carb looking EFI setup but this engine needs to have EFI, I just hope it doesn't loose the rumble the current 351w has.

Updates to come soon,
JB

I am back now after spending a few days off going fishing with some of my high school friends, some I haven't seen in about 15 years. Wow time flies sometimes. I planned to meet one at his house near Dallas, Tx. then fly his plane to Biloxi, Ms. but the weather didn't cooperate. We ended up making the 650 mile drive after I got there doing 350 miles from my house. LONG DAY of driving but made it earlier than we planned so it worked out great. The others met us down there later that night. The first day was spent wondering around, eating Cajun, Seafood, and having a few drinks catching up. The next day we went fishing about 10 miles off shore on a chartered boat. In the end I had the best luck and snagged the biggest catch of the day:
IMG_2308.JPG

That is a 38.2 lb (17.3 kg) blacktip shark, he was a fighter for certain. In the end we caught our limit of 3 blacktips, we also got quite a few we had to throw back, a sand shark, and a few others I can't remember. Here we are with our catch:
IMG_2311.JPG

Oh I should mention I was the one that pulled in the three big sharks. :) The next day we played golf...well they played, I drove the cart and kept there drinks cold.

Back at home it was more catch up mowing and at work. I did get the trans pulled from Lever Action and replaced the slave cylinder but this is the only photo I have of it:
IMG_2342.JPG

Exciting I know, all back together now and time to bleed the clutch fluid, everything I've read is that it'll be a "fun" job. By the way the new forum is pretty freaking cool, just have to figure it out now which could take a few days.

Well nothing really photo worthy from this weekend, but I have Lever Action all back together and even got the clutch hydraulic line bled the first try. Truck is up and running great now, I have a load of scrap in the bed to gain a little working room. Moved the Impala SS into the shop to begin troubleshooting it next.

Looks like a fun trip JB!
@OutlawDrifter It was a blast, we are already discussing plans to go back again next year.

All,
I'll try to get a photo tonight, but we are expected to get some pretty bad weather including up to 2" hail. I moved some stuff around in the shop and was able to pull the pink Jeep, my S10, Grandpa's truck, and the Impala SS I'm working on all in the shop with the RX-7 and the '57 Chevy but Great Grandpa's tractor, mower, go cart, and mini bike are all in there as well. The Festivas and my farm truck are back in the lean to and one stall open for the horses if needed. Yeah things are packed tight in there but everything without full coverage insurance is in a safe location except for the yellow car. Fingers crossed, but now that I'm prepared we probably won't get any weather.

Now that's a MANLY grinder!

@Finallygotit, sorry for the delay, I just saw this post. Yes that thing is huge, I remember it was a 5hp 3ph motor, looks like ~4" (100mm) wide stones and may be 2' (.67m) diameter. No loose clothing by that thing.

It is dumping bucket of rain on us right now but so far no hail.

I forgot to post these before but last weekend I went to a surprise 60th birthday party for a fellow car nut and also happens to be my brother's Father-in-law. His wife surprised him with this truck:
IMG_2344.JPG

When she mentioned she got him one I expected a project vehicle, nothing like this. I'm sure I'll get some miles following this on a trip we are planning right now.

I've mentioned I'm helping out on an Impala SS but no one has asked about it so I was going to put it off a little longer but here goes. It had the oil changed and the shop used synthetic which was a first for the engine. Owner said it shortly after began to knock, lifter tick is what I suspect after hearing the car run. It also showed a low oil pressure message, my first stab at it was to "burn the carbon off of the valves", and it worked, no more light and the ticking was gone. I changed the oil to look at the filter and it was clean:
IMG_2359.JPG

Well that is good news at least, I did the rest of the oil change and cleaned a few things up. Started the car yesterday after all of the weather had passed (no hail, just rain by the way) and it still didn't tick, but the low oil pressure light would come on when at idle. :headshake I will next pull the pressure sensor and hook up an analog gauge to test it out to see what it actually is and go from there. I'd be surprised if it were a bad oil pump but have some more testing to do. Anyone have any ideas?

This weekend was spent helping my parents move after 22 years in their last home, that was a real workout but luckily 4 of my brothers joined us to help so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

JB, I wonder if the engine is sludged up on the Impala.

Might do it some good to run some Kreen through it. But hooking up a mechanical gauge won't hurt for sure, at least you'll have a better idea. How many miles on the engine?

Thank you Grizz, I'll be working on it on the side of the road I'm sure at some point. :spit:

What is Kreen @OutlawDrifter, I haven't heard of it before? The car has 192k miles (307k km) and as far as I know is the original engine. I wouldn't be surprised that it does have some gunk built up in it. I kinda wish I would have put some seafoam in the oil before I changed it, but I would still do that before I pull the engine for an oil pump change.

@OutlawDrifter I have a few cans of the Aerokroil, we use it at work and the guys swear by it so I picked a few cans up. I'll see if I can source some locally and go from there. Oil came out and didn't seem to have any sludge entrained.

Kreen is awesome stuff as is AreoKroil. I need to order some of both to have here in my own garage, I used it for years as a tech but I have been out of that now for 5yrs.

You didn't mention what year Impala SS - One from the 60's or the 90's?? Also, what weight of oil was used?

If it's from the '60s, I'd expect at 192,000 it's time for a set of rod bearings. Or, it may be so sludged up that the oil doesn't drain out of the heads and lifter valley, preventing enough to accumulate in the sump for the pump to build pressure, especially if the rotating assembly is "loose"...
