There are STILL good tool truck guys

I know that a bunch of you have bad ones but thought I would give out some good news for a change. First up was the MAC truck guy. I have never met the man before but have seen him driving around the area.

I had one of my old flex head ratchets that needed a new screw (the old one broke in two). I knocked on the door of his truck, explained that I did not buy it from him but that I wanted to purchase a kit or (if he had a spare) just a screw. He said hang on, opened a drawer and handed me a rebuild kit and "No charge, anything else I can help you with today?". I will be buying something from him next week just because of the way he treated me...

Met my Snappy guy later that day to pick up some new goodies and to get my Solus updated. I asked him about bringing in my torque wrenches to get them checked. He turned around and handed me his Snap-on Torque Meter and told me to keep it this weekend and bring it back sometime next week.

The first time I met him was about 6 months ago and you need to remember that I do not wrench for a living anymore, was dressed in jeans (no work clothes) and stopped him to buy a ratchet to replace an old blackhawk that I put about 80 yards into the woods (ever felt like doing that???). He made me feel welcome, answered my questions, treated me like I was his best customer and told me to call him anytime. He has since sold me a few tools...

I can't understand how some of the drivers make a living treating people the way that they do but I felt that the other side of the coin deserved to be heard. Good drivers do exist and there are some GREAT ones among them.

yes we do exist.
I hear each week from my guys that the other tool dealers are jerks. One guy manages to make more customers mad every week.
SOme guys do not want any excessive headaches or problems. If I had a torque meter I would lend it out as well.
I even helped guys in another route when their dealer wouldnt fix anything. I am glad I did, when we took over that other dealers route the guys were glad to see me and business went on as usual.

If the dealers don't get their payments on time, they pretty much hate everybody whether they know them or not.

I use my 20 years of wrenching experience and 20 years of tool guy dealings and bring that to the table for my guys.

I have seen lots of ****** tool guys over the years, I will never be and try my hardest every day not to be one of those guys.

its good to hear that there are lots of good tool guys around.
From my short experience I have found the Matco guys VERY easy to deal with and super nice. Then the Mac guys were kinda so so, dont stock much but he is willing to put the price down because he really needs to sell, from what I hear he is in trouble.
Our cornwell guy is top notch, free drinks every monday wether you buy or not.
I have only had one good snap on guy out of the three but thank god he is the current one. Very nice guy, easy to deal with.
All the tool dealers at my place are very nice, the Mac guy still has me in doubts but so far so good.
I have yet to find a dealer as nice as my Matco, as much as I know it is not as good as SO their customer service has been so good you cant ignore it.

my dealing with the Matco guy has been great. got denied warranty on some slides by Matco over the phone. got a hold of the local guy, an ex-marine, told him i'm a student and the box i bought used needs some new slides. he told me he'd take care of it a day later while he was in my neck of woods. i brought over a picture of the box data plate, he made couple phone calls then told me just keep the old slides till he got the new ones, he'd file the paper work and should be around two weeks. he called me friday telling he just received the slides i can pick them up tuesday.

i have student discount with all big 3, so far i only ordered from Matco because their tool man is cool. i bought couple hansen socket trays from him at full retail just because he's good to me.

I've had the same Snap-on and Matco guys for years and they're great guys. We can't seem to keep a Mac dealer, they go out of business in a few months. Mac has a bad reputation around here because of dealer problems. Why pay big money for tools that are a pain to get warranteed because you are between dealers?

Our Snap On guy is real good. When the company canned our night shift we had to go to days. I finally got to meet him, the first thing out of his mouth was: " Have anything to warranty?" I always try to drop some $ with him each week. My problem is that we still aren't working permanent yet. We have been working 2 to 3 weeks with a lay off following the next 2 to 3 or 4 weeks. Its been like this for about a year now, I don't know when it will get back to "normal".

I agree treating the customer right is the ebst thing to do. Now some of them need to be put in their place from time to time or they will step all over you. now the 11pm phone calls are not taken too well by the wife, that is when I will let you know it is not cool.

I set to vibrate every night and respond in the AM. No calls after 10PM, AFAIC thats common courtesy.

I usually text my dealer in the morning if i require anything and he gets to me when he can .

I have no issues with the Snap On dealers in the area. My Mac guy is great, really awesome. has really helped out in pinches. My matco guy *****. Looking for a new Matco guy.

My Snap-On guy is awesome. I'm not one of his big customers, but he is always really good to me.

There are guys who drive to his house to buy tools because they don't want to work with the Snap-On guys who have their territory.

He's a great guy and he makes a fortune--It's funny how things work out to be pretty fair sometimes.

+1 Here my last Mac guy was a company employee and his truck was an old Snap On truck it had the displal tool box for the desk and they even left the emblem on it. The poor guy had NO idea of what a lion's den he had been thrown into witch was sad because he tried soo hard to make thing's right with the mechanic's who had been screwed over for soo many year's ! I Have NO RESPECT for the company and will NEVER buy another tool from them. I havnt seen a Mac truck around Fort Wayne in months.

I guess I'm lucky after hearing some horror stories from some people about truck guys. At my shop we have two guys who come weekly (Snap-On and Matco) and I have received nothing but excellent customer service from both of them.

I have nothing but praise for my SO guy. I cracked a socket, broke some needle nose pliers and he just tossed then into his return draw and handed me new ones. He always gives me free stuff, Tshirts, shirts, cups etc.

When I read the horror stories around here with people having problems... I keep picturing someone who has bought a bunch of broken tools from the flea market then trying to exchange them for new ones.

We've been through 3 or 4 mac/matco guys in the last year.. and we don't even have one now. The last one got pissed because i didn't want to drop $700 on a 1/2 gun and socket set.. And i wasn't even looking for one

Our cornwell guy is a very good guy though he's been around for the last 6 months or so.. gives me discounts usually.

Our snap on man supposedly has the biggest truck on the east coast.. He's been there every monday for the last 3 years and i've never had one problem with him..He's always willing to help me out no questions asked.
