Well, I picked up some new goods yesterday. Been doing a lot of side work outta my garage at home, and just wrapped up a big job and pocketed around 3k. I had $3,000 burnin hole in my pocket, and guess who showed up....................

Of course I had to ok spending a bit of money with the mrs. but she was cool with it, guess i'm a lucky guy.

So I picked up a few items, which were all things I wish I woulda had on this stupid korean car I was working on. Our old snap-on guy stopped showing up, and this new guy bought the truck off him I guess? He gave me a deal I couldn't refuse, plus I wanted to help him out because he wants to get rid of the stuff on the truck the old guy had stocked, but couldn't manage to sell. The hard handled ratchet was just a buy I had been wanting to make since I saw them on the GJ.

Very nice! Congrats. It's great to be able to tell Santa what you want a couple of months early, and these are a lifetime purchase. Thanks for the pics.

It looks like you made some good choices!

The only thing I will say is that you'll wish you would've purchased the bigger set of combination wrenches.

I did a big job on a hyundai tiburon gt. Build a motor, r&r the engine, suspension install, clutch install, subwoofer install, built a custom intake for it, tune it, and some other things. Came out to 3k labor after all was said and done.

Big Gus- I would've loved the bigger set, but he made me an offer of $80 for the set I got, and I couldn't pass on that. It's missing a few important wrenches like the 18mm and 19mm, but I figured I could buy those seperate and still be in it less than if I had opted for the bigger set.

Here, i'll break it down piece by piece for y'all.

1.) Hard handled ratchet- $60
2.) 1/2 drive metric shallow 6pt socket set and S80A ratchet- $200
3.) FHNF100- $100
4.) 90* 9 1/2 pliers- $40
5.) 3/8 drive shallow and deep metric 6pt- $350
6.) Flank drive plus metric combo wrenches 10mm to 17mm- $80 :shocking:

Im sure glad I drink the cheaper kool-aid.

To each their own my friend. I own a lot of cheaper tools also, nothing wrong with it. But I also consider myself a professional, and like to use good quality tools that I know won't fail me and like customers to see quality tools being used when they come to check in on their car.

Nice tools. I like Snap-on tools a lot but I sold all of my stuff because I don't agree with their marketing vision. It makes me a little sad but I'm happier having stood by my personal ideals.

I like using good quality tools with unrecognizable names, that way I can tell what customers are brand-obsessed knuckleheads.

That 7 piece is this weeks $99 special in my area. I got one at $99 don't know how you got him to lower it even more.

Brand obsessed knuckleheads aren't the way I look at them. More like there's brands out there that are easily recognizable, have a good reputation, and are choice of mechanics/technicians worldwide. Maybe not by all, but certainly a good portion.

But obviously if everyone knew about the actual amount of good tools out there and their own cars, then me and you wouldn't have jobs. I'm a kind of guy that doesn't pass on any work big or small, I also don't want people leaving my shop not giving me their work.

Again, it ultimately comes down to personal choice.

I have no idea, he showed up, we got to talking, I had the ok to spend a little bit of money from the boss, I started picking things up, and he would give me the price. I told him from the get-go I was paying cash, so that probably helped a bit. Plus our old dealer got canned I think, he was trying to get rid of some of the stock on the truck so he could re-stock it I guess?

But at $80 and it being the only set sitting there, I wasn't leaving that truck without it lol.

..I recently paid off my snap on truck account and when I made my final payment, he jokingly said thats a dangerous thing with him, then he tried to sell me a ratchet and socket set.I was so tempted to buy but I just couldn't, but told him I will be making future purchases.

Personally I don't think I could ever justify Snap-On either but you know what? It's a US product made by Americans in Wisconsin so you gotta give the guy props for keeping the money here in the States vs. sending it overseas.

I buy Craftsman that's as far as I go BUT you can't argue that Snap-On doesn't make top notch products. Sometimes we (people) just like to buy something "nice" and use it. Makes us feel good. To that I say, go for it. :rocker: Better sockets than MJ.

Those are some nice tools. I read some where that dealers going out of business aren't allowed to sell their tools to new dealers. Wondering if that's false or if they did an hush hush deal.

I honestly don't know. I think there was a lot more to it than the old dealer going out of business. But I don't know for sure, just a hunch.

You're going to absolutely love that round swivel-head ratchet. When I got mine I was surprised at just how useful it was with a lot of different applications. I bet I grab it more than any other now. I think you made some great choices there.
