So I just had my 30x 40 post frame building put up, and now I am trying to run wire for my sub panel. I ran about 70’ of 1 1/2” PVC conduit underground (24” deep) to the new structure. I am at a loss for how to get the wire from the main panel in my basement into the conduit. I am planning to use an LB elbow at the end of the conduit (outside) and push a piece of conduit thru the wall (brick, sheathing, and a 2x12 that is on top of my poured basement wall). The issue is my main panel already uses all the knockout holes on the top of the panel for the house wiring and the feed from outside. So, I need to run the wire down and into a knockout in the side of the panel. But, I cannot conceive of how to make the turns required from the thru hole from outside to the knockout.

I was thinking I could terminate the conduit in a 6” enclosure and run 1 1/2” greenfield from the enclosure to the panel knockout. I would not terminate the waives in the enclosure just pull through it into the greenfield. But even typing it makes me feel queasy. It makes me feel like a hack.

I am including a couple pics. The first one is of where I am going to come thru the wall (just under the 2 coax cable lines) and the knockout hole I wish to use on the side of the panel. The second is the top of the main panel to illustrate how little space remains.

I am hoping one of the sparkles will chime in and stop me from being an idiot.

I had a very similar situation and I used a wide sweep 90 from the rim board, then a 45 (and a small piece of conduit) into the box.

90 sweep from rim joist to LL conduit body into panel. Or LR or LL body from rim joist to a LL body into panel. Hopefully I got my body order correct.

Just be aware that if you decide to use a pull box, it needs to be sized per 314.28, and will likely be bigger than you expect. You'll be better off if you can use a conduit body.

FWIW I have been amazed at how much easier a pull through a 45 is than a 90. I redug a ditch to allow use of a 45 in a place there had been a 90. wow what a difference. Even two 45s separated a bit is easier than a 90. I don’t know that to be true in all size combinations. Just saying if something doesn’t work try something else.
