Swapping a z wave honeywell for a wifi honeywell. Almost look identical. Should be plug and play. The new one is not turning on the system, shouldn't the wiring be the same?

Here's the add-a-wire on the unit in the attic

Here's how it's currently wired and works perfectly...Notice the yellow is not hooked up and the green goes to the "K" on the left.

Here's what the book shows

Here's what the old Z-wave 8320 looks like

New Wifi 8580. Seems like they should be plug and play interchangeable. What am I missing?

Did you go through all of the settings and copy them to the new 'stat? System type, fan control, etc.

Actually, no I didn't. I assumed my system is standard and the book said it comes programed for standard systems by default. Glancing through the book it looked like most of the setting adjustments were for systems with heat pumps or systems with heat or cool only. Will take another look and see what I can find.

Didn't even think to flip the breaker. I shut everything off and then made the swap. When it didn't come back on, I checked the breakers. Then I snapped the old one back in and everything works as normal. :dunno:

Some NEW style fancy shlt may not be compatible the older systems . Check the manual to see if it's compatible , neighbor blew his transformer trying to connect this wifi stuff . I think it's all a waste of money. Set stat and leave it alone.

Are you trying to plug into the old subbase? Looks like the K terminal might be in a different location.

Settings may need to be changed, I've not dealt with that add a wire setup but I'd be surprised if you don't have to enable it in the stat someplace.

Did you read the instructions?

Are you certain that the subbases are the same?

I'll be willing to bet that the K terminal functions must be enabled in the Installers Settings. It will not be enabled by default.

Have you been to South Texas in the summer? Worth $99 to be able to turn on the AC while I'm driving home from work or turn it off when I'm laying in bed? To me, definitely worth it.

I didn't change them, but they appear to be identical.

Will check on this, but the book is really a joke.

Shouldn't your green wire be going to the "G" terminal on the new stat.

According to the photo in the book yes, but I can't figure out why they hooked it up like it is now with Green to K and the Y not even hooked up. Thought I would ask someone before I starting playing around with them too much.

First go to the unit itself and determine how the wires are hooked up. I assume that is the 1st pic. At that point the new stat and the instructions should guide you. Here is a pretty good treatise on the subject.
