Thermostat placement with Radiant heat

I am just in the process of finishing off my hanging propane radiant heater. I need to install the thermostat next and I am wondering about placement.

The heater is mounted at a 45 degree angle and 6 inches from the ceiling and 6 inches from the wall that is behind it.

I am thinking about mounting the thermostat on the wall directly behind the heater as the heater should radiant the heat forward.

Will I end up with a short cycle on my heater with this thermostat placement?

That is where the one was mounted for the one that I just bought. I had to take it down when I bought it and it was on the back wall, in the corner about 5ft off of the floor.

An inside wall, 5 ft. off the floor. If no inside wall is available just to the right of that drywall rack. Short-cycling will be the result of an over-sized infra-red tube heater and not stat placement. We use a two-stage radiant tube heater in nearly all of our small garage jobs.

Well I fired up the heater this weekend and really like it.

I ended up placing the thermostat to the left of the radiant heater. It is on the outside wall, as all the walls are outside walls. I placed it there as my bench is going to be there and thought it would be convenient to be able to turn the heat up.

So far it works well, but it is not cold yet.

BadgerBoilerMN, are you suggesting I may get some short cycling this winter because mine has an over-sized tube heater? This unit is rated at 45,000 btu, the garage is 24X28 with R20 walls, R40 ceiling and an R16 door. I live in Northern Canada and will see -40 regularly.......
