Hey guys, I just finished up placing my new Mr. Heater 45k and I need to place the thermostat.

Where did you guys place yours?

The heater is in the back of the shop, placed diagonally facing the other corner.

Positon 1, 2 or 3?

I am leaning towards position 2. Easy to route, next to a light switch (power panel is there) and it is outside the range of the blower.

Please advise. :)

Thanks!

Best control and temperature regulation will be had if you mount on an interior wall... If you don't have an interior wall (and I guess you don't) and no columns or posts, I'd set it as far from the wall as possible, using something insulated. (reason is that outside walls are generally colder, and don't reflect the true air temp, this may cause the heater to over heat the air).

I have mine in position 2. Put a piece of pink rigid foam behind the thermostat otherwise the cold wall will "chill" the thermostat and the heater will never shut off. Thats what happened to me and my buddy also. It may look unattractive but its very effective.

If your wall it well insulated, it shouldn't really affect the T Stat.

I'd be concerned with #2 that any draft from the garage door would more or less blow right on the T Stat.

I've got mine located on a wall and it seems to be spot on. It is surrounded (but not backed by) insulation and is a line voltage stat...so those could have some bearing on things too. I myself just didn't have any other options besides putting it on the front of my work-bench...but I thought it too accessible for the kids.

My overhead Reznor heater is on the one end of the 36' garage and the themostat is located on the opposite wall between 2 studs. The walls are uninsulated so I put up some insulation behind the thermostat hoping it reads the garage temp. rather than the wall temp. I'm actually thinking about moving it onto the stringer for the steps going upstairs.

I put mine 2/3 the way down the wall between your #1 and #2.
that way any draft from the door doesn't efect the temp.
Is does seem to be cooler around the door but the rest of the garage temp. is uniformed.

I would put it near where you spend most of your time. That way the stat will keep the area in which you spend most of your time a constant temperature.

I agree with this post. Every time the door gets opened the thermostat will pick up the cold air and kick on the heater.

I would probably put it on the wall where the window is(towards the back on the garage.

Thanks for all the input guys. I do have R13 in the walls. I am now leaning towards position 1. I can always move it around if needed.

I used to have the thermostat at 3 and I had trouble with the heater just blowing straight at it, I to set up a fan to blow the hot air around. I have now been given a nice Carrier thermostat which has a remote sensor for it. I mounted it in position 1 and it averages between 1 and 3. 3 is where the thermostat and the entrance to the garage is. For me this was a lot better solution.
