I am trying to put the last bit of the shopping together for my Modine PDP175 and need a thermostat. I would like to avoid buying one online because of delivery time so want a big box style. Are these things special in any way? The recomeneded thermostat is a 24v something or another and is kind of pricey. Can I just pick up a cheapie digital from the home stores and be done with it? My only concern is getting something that will regulate to 40 deg or lower even. Any recomendations from Menards or Home depot?

residential stats generally only go down to 44f , buy a $19 Honeywell T87 regular round heat only stat. still the best stat on the market for this application. If you want to control around freezing your going to have to get a low temp stat.

2 hours and a lot of reading on thermostats and I am coming to the same conclusion. I also know you can clock these (turn it to the side) to change the range a bit. That is if I can still get a mercury switched one. I was kind of hoping for a digital but that is a taste luxury thing.
