Looking for recommendations for a programmable thermostat with remote temperature sensing capabilities. This is for a 2.5t heat pump. The existing t-stat is just in the wrong room/location.
Wifi is a 'nice to have', and seems to be a feature on the few I have found with remote temp sense capability.

Honeywell, Ecobee, ???

I have an Ecobee 4. It's "solved" our issues with uneven cooling/heating in the house. My house is a tri-level from 1963 with seemingly the original AC unit. The thermostat is in the living room and is always quite a few degrees off the upstairs. We were having issues where the bedrooms were too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. The Ecobee with remote sensor allowed me to tell the Ecobee to make sure the temperature is good upstairs at night and downstairs during the day. We've had it about a month and it's a huge improvement.

It has Wifi and all kindsa bells and whistles though so if you're looking for a simple thermostat look elsewhere. It's not at all hard to operate but it's definitely not ye olde.

Honeywell Visionpro 8000 has an optional remote indoor (& outdoor) temperature sensor. I use them in a lot of applications where I don't want anyone to have access to the settings. Even though most stats can be "locked", it's really easy for people to find the manuals on line.

The Ecobee is a really nice system. I swap them in for people when they get fed up with the Nest stuff.

Honeywell does this pretty well. The Prestige IAQ has optional room remote sensors for just that. It will average the various readings. Also has an outdoor temp/humidity sensor.

I used this WiFi Thermostat from VentStar for quite a while and was very happy with it

Our house has an air conditioner for each floor and it did not make sense to run the 1st-floor air conditioner just to cool down one room when the thermostat was located on the other side of the house.

The Ventstar 'receiver' mounts where your thermostat would normally mount - all it is is a box - no controls, with a couple of indicator lights

The actual thermostat is completely portable, runs on batteries and uses wifi to communicate with the receiver. You can program it like normal thermostat with day and night time settings but I just basically used it to cool down or heat the room that I was in at the time (basically a remote control)

(You can not access the settings or a web page like the latest wifi thermostats - it is just to communicate between the two devices)

I have an Ecobee 3 and I'm really happy with it. Adding the remote sensor to the master bedroom has been helpful to maintain comfort levels upstairs, especially at night.
