I have one small bedroom that has radiant ceiling heat that will not work. How can I test the thermostat to see if that is the problem? If the thermostat is OK what is the next possible cause? I know this is a bad source for heating and I do not see much information about this. Thanks for the help.

If you aren't familiar with the workings of an electric heater, you should contact an electrician to test the thermostat. It is a very simple job for someone familiar with the workings of electricity and a test meter, but dangerous for those who don't understand it.

First, are you talking the thermostat on the wall that the user sets a temperature on, or are you talking something that samples and regulates the water temperature in the actual unit?

The user-controlled device usually runs on 24VAC. Any new thermostat will come with installation directions, so it's not all that hard to figure out which wires serve which purposes, and to test across the various connections. Still, it's mildly risky, so it might make more sense to just try replacing the thermostat to see if that resolves it.

Electric radiant ceiling heat, or something else? If electric, the thermostat is likely a line voltage one.

Sounds like a line voltage thermostat (careful, 240 volts there...) so tracing the power should not be too difficult. There may be a junction box in the attic...
