Now, keep them handy for when someone wants to borrow a ratchet.
The reactions will be worth the time you spent on them!

I hope you guys didn't think I forgot about these!

A little wire brush internal cleaning with the Wizard.

I noticed an "S" stamp inside one of the ratchets.

Prepped and ready and off to the paint booth. Hahahaaaaaaaaah!

I knew that old antenna that fell off the house in the wind storm would come in handy.

And..........dry already on this warm and windy day.

I wanted to keep them bare steel and clear coat, but found this can of Rustoleum sitting around, so there went that cool look.

Oiled up the parts after wire brushing them. Replaced the gear with the broken stud. The other one works fine but the ball is awfully rough.

I also replaced one spring that was in poor shape.

That's Proto ! Toughest ratchets ever made. Waldens are probably close and just as crude.

You can say that again!

When I think about it, a lot of other ratchets would have been near impossible to recover in that shape. Also, 1/2" drive so that helped. If a full rebuild kit was installed, who wouldn't want to own these beauties?

Great job! It's always nice to see so called, broken tools, revitalized to a new life. These will mean even more to you with all the work you put into them to bring them back. Tool on, Sir!

Seeing those is awesome. I have a Chinese "Proto" knockoff I would love to make look like that... (To loan to tool borrowers)
