I was in Sears a couple of weeks ago and they were still USA. I walked in yesterday and noticed a different hue on the metal and sure enough....

What is new about this? They Chinese made raised panels have been out for more than a year and there have been several threads about it. Is there a new version or something?

I just found out yesterday. Wasn't aware of older threads.

After being here for awhile now I see no reason to go to Sears for my tool needs, American made or not. There are just too many better options out there for my hard earned $$$.

We just had a huge thread about this that died down only recently.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=194980

Pictures of the USA vs. Chinese made Combination Wrenches... including that finish you speak of. Have fun reading through that thing! I didn't expect my 'review' to garner so much feedback! :lol_hitti

I missed that one! Great thread. The pics you took were great! Amazing and disconcerting how many of us support the Chinese ****. My suspicion is that we do it for argument's sake alone. Claiming that a lobster claw wrench is equal to the older US non lobster claw counterpart is downright inane.

most people outside of GJ are shocked to hear cman is now chinese

Tell me about it, I went to a friends house for a dinner party, the friend is a Farmer that works on machines and cars. When I told him how fortunate he was to have american made craftsman instead of the current line-up his jaw dropped down three inches and the look on face was a ghastly pale white.

That night he stopped by his sears and I swear I could hear crying 55 miles away.

Nope. Just informing those who don't know yet. I have that right, right?

I went to SEARS a few months ago just to get a set of USA RP wrenches in Metric. There was only two USA sets left. I'm glad I got my RP's when I did. Have no reason to go to SEARS anymore.

If you still want a USA made set take a look in your local Kmart stores. I have found several sets of USA made ones in mine.

I picked up the last 2 USA made double box end wrenches in 1 1/8 - 1 5/16 and 1 1/16 - 1 1/4 raised panel wrenches they had in the Sears down the street from me (I am within 10 miles of 7 stores and 3 Sears Outlets)...

Everything else in that store is China made now...
