I just picked up a TL72, 1/4" ratchet, that is really smooth, however I am not a big fan of the thin handle. Does SO have any thicker handle fine tooth 1/4 ratchets?

How about comfort grip or hard handle? Those are both good options.
A better option is the 1/4" Bahco, it's $26 shipped from Amazon and is the same as a Snap-On T72, I mean the head is identical and they are owned by Snap-On.

+1 on the Bahco. Waiting on the 1/4 myself. I own the 3/8 and 1/2 and they are awesome for the money.

I just sold my cornwell 1/4 because of that reason. I have a bluepoint that I added a screw driver handle.too and love it.

The comfort grip may be an option, not a fan of the plastic screwdriver handle. One of my favorite feeling ratchets is a newer craftsman where the chrome isn't as clean cut or as polished, but don't like the coarseness. Thanks all.

Explain? My kobalt roto head doesn't have any different handle then Amy other chrome handled ratchet.

Don't some of the kobalt have that square "rubberized" (?) handle? I'd assume their roto would have a similar handle as it's not a set ratchet and most of the hanger ratchets have thicker handles.

Does snap on have a composite 1/4"? That'd probably be the thickest 1/4" handle they have. Otherwise most of the taiwanese stuff has similar handles, ez red makes some very nice ones but not much better than the harbor freight pittsburgh pro stuff (extendable, composite, or roto ratchet).

Honestly, if you have an issue getting torque on a 1/4" you should size up to 3/8".

I would just like to know, which is the best 1/4" ratchet on the market, based upon value for the dollar, and not upon a brand name.

Short and long handle.

Bro, I own the 3/8's and 1/2 bahco and i **** my pants at the quality of these for the money. These are hands down the best rats out there for the money. The guts are snap-on dual 80's

1/4 version....

My cornwell has a pretty thick handles in a some what round plastic handles before they switched to 100 tooth and I have not seen this thick before about the size of snap on softgrip screwdriver handles

Try slipping a piece of rubber hose over the ratchet end. With some creativity you could find a size that likes your hand.

The dewalt ratchets are pretty beefy. 72 tooth too I believe.

youll need a goodys or bc after using it. haha. the dewalt ratchets have some serious weight to them. they do have some nice thick handles. if you were breaking things loose all day long, the dewalt wouldnt stress your fingers as bad as some of the competition.

The composite 1/4" from HF has a beefy handle, as does the 3/8" and 1/2" and they have fine teeth.
the best bang for the buck out there. i have the newer and the older styles. i prefer the older handles myself, but they are very good ratchets. use my 1/2 one for a hammer every now and then. for 8 bucks with a coupon, its the best thing to come out of china.

That dewalt looks interesting and very good idea alin100. The only allegiances I have are to the tools that work, and won't damage the cars or me, either intentionally or accidental.

I agree on the allegiances, because what works the best, is what will give the best perceived return on investment.

Wow talk about weird!

I myself was just thinking of this today. I want to get the exact same snap on hard handle flex as above....in green also!

I really like this topic because I only own a snap on t72 for 1/4 drive. I love it because I can palm the entire ratchet n really choke up on it but I'd like something bigger for other small things that require 1/4" drive but not feel like my hand is gonna fall off using the tiny handle. Something longer aswell.
This is why I have been thinking of going with the snap on hard handle flex snap on one

i have a long matco 1/4 inch. its the length of most std short 3/8. it has a thin handle, but you really dont have to use much finger strength to bust things loose since it is extra length.

Which brand is that on the far right? I like round head 1/4 drive ratchets with a knurled handle.

It is an SK 40970. Sadly I don't use the SK's as much. It's a PIA to switch the direction with slimy hands. Aside from that they make a great ratchet. Tooth count isn't that high, but you don't have to worry about the small teeth breaking or slipping and busting your knuckles.

I have T72, SK, Proto, Par-X and a few more name brand 1/4" ratchets. My favorite is Craftsman premium, with the paintbrush handle. Pretty fine tooth count, and the handle is comfy for a guy like me with meatballs for hands. :) I have been thinking of selling the Snap-on, I very rarely use it.

Anyone else have a flex head snap on 1/4 drive?
Wanna hear some opinions on them. Probably gonna get one this Friday. Feels good in my hand for a second or two when I was on the truck last

I have the thlf-72 and a Cornwell standard tooth flex with a handle. The Snap On is definitely nice and my go to in most situations. The Cornwell is butter smooth and strong as hell. Just use the Snap On more because I work on stuff in the interior and most of the time the fine tooth is needed.

U think a flex head is really needed in a 1/4" drive ratchet??

I have the 1/4" Snap-On flex ratchet, and I like it. I can think of numerous situations where I was glad it was a flex handle, and not rigid.

Great in the hand, even after several hours.

Even with my previous comment, I want to clarify something.

Just because I have the 1/4 flex Snappy, doesn't mean it's the first thing I reach for when I need it.

The GearWrench 81012P, is my choice in 1/4" flex ratchets. Amazon has it for $31, and it's near to perfect in my eyes.

:rocker: I love the 120xp short handle, as far as a short handled, direction changeable ratchet there is no better.

I do have a TRLL72 that i've been using instead of a 3/8 ratchet due to clearance issues. I specifically picked up a set of Koken metric mid sockets for this ratchet

And 5 times the cost too! :lol_hitti

Some people do not mind paying extra for the best quality or at least what they percieve to be the best.

I cant say enough about how much I like my comfort grip snaps. Flex head and regular. The comfort grip easily allows a proper amount of torque to be applied to the tool. Step upsize if needed, thats what I do.
