Thin, Inexpensive Oak Floor?

Hi. I want an oak floor stained really dark. I can't afford $5 per square foot for typical pre-finished flooring. It's really tight, so I'm looking $1.50/sft and under. I'll retreat to vinyl roll if forced. I have a thick 1-1/8 sub-floor, so I don't need thick material for strength. 1/4" oak plywood is one option I'm considering. $17 a sheet means $0.53 per square foot before sandpaper, stain, seal. Do they make thin 1/4" oak flooring or other products I should compare?

Thanks.
Kevin

They make real wood flooring that is similar to laminates but is real wood. It is basically plywood with a premium wood veneer on the top.
Some snaps together and some you will glue or staple down.

For the price you are looking at the only ones I have seen near that are at some of the overstock or liquidation places. So start looking there

Where is the floor going (obviously on the floor--what room)? Is it a wood subfloor? What type of flooring is currently there?

Engineered hardwood. Typically glued down on concrete or stapled on subfloor. Stapled uses a special gun similar to a hardwood floor nailer.

Check bamboo. Thin. Inexpensive. Easy to install (click together).

It is a floating floor, so it is not attached to the subfloor. You must install shoe molding to cover the gap at the wall.

Good suggestions. I was away from the keyboard over the weekend. Will check lumber liquidators this week. My budget does look like the bargain bin. I did see a decent looking bamboo recently, and it was less than the hardwoods.

Attic of garage over a 1-1/8 sub-floor. Room will be heated/cooled at times. May leave heat/cool off at times when the room is not in use.
