Thin-wall 3/8" impact sockets: 21mm

I got a good line on a 20 volt 3/8" cordless impact that I would like to buy....can't have enough of impacts to have if the deal is too good to pass up. Anyway, with my truck, the lug nuts are factory 21mm size; however, over time they swelled up and now 21.5 mm socket is what will fit (verified with a Bluepoint 21.5mm flip socket). 22mm deep impact is ok (SK brand), a little sloppy than the 21.5mm but it's doable.I just don't like the sloppiness of the 22mm.

I was trying to find a manufacturer of "thin-wall" 3/8" 21mm impact sockets and see if the thin-walled socket would work on my lug nuts and I'm not having luck finding thin-walled 3/8" impact sockets. I assume this is non-existent? I guess I'll go to a 22mm deep impact socket for 3/8" drive. Is there any manufacturer of thin walled 3/8" impact sockets in the bigger sizes, like 21mm? Maybe another manufacturer's 22mm socket will fit a little better if I can't find what I'm looking for.

no, this impact will not be used strictly for lug nuts but I would like it to do double duty if I need to use it. I have my M12 stubby 1/2" that I use now for tires. Don't want to use a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter. Thanks in advance.

Try Grey Pneumatic Duo sockets. Some 3/8 sets go up to 22mm

Snap on makes 3/8 drive flip sockets and/or lug sockets.

I believe in a previous thread it was suggested that the Duo sockets were thinner walled, however.

Still wanted to mention the Snap On product(s) in case they have a 21.5 mm option. I'll see if I can find them.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Duo socket. Does anyone know who are the authorized online distributors are for GP? IIRC, GP won't warranty anything not bought from an authorized distributor? Just wanted to double check. They don't have a list of authorized distributors on their website for whatever reason, you have to fill out a contact form *rolls eyes*

replace the lug nuts, do you really need thin wall? since you are going with GP sockets, i guess you dont.

3/8 impact sockets are normally slightly thinner than 1/2 impact sockets to begin with.

Yes, please replace the lug nuts. They'll swell even bigger or the caps will come off. Can eventually strip with oversized socket. I've seen, on old chargers/300s, the cap start spinning on the nut underneath but the cap wont just pull off due to design. If it strips, then you'll have to pound on a 21mm socket with BFH or might even need an extractor. Or need a 20mm if the cap falls off.

Thin walled sockets wont fit over a swollen lug any better than normal wall thickness. Inside diameter of the socket is the same on both, outside diameter is what's different. I've never seen thin walled 3/8 impact sockets. They could exist, never thought to even look for them

I'm not sure but I thought the only authorized dealer was one of the auto parts chains. I don't recall which one that is and if ordering from them online still provides the warranty.

By the way, I agree with others about replacing the lug nuts. This has come up several times and I don't recall anyone saying they regret getting new lug nuts.

Not sure what terms to search but there are replacements that don't have the swelling issue.

I ordered the Grey Pneumatic(GP) duo socket from Mac Tools. They are an authorized reseller. It was about $7 more than what I could find on Amazon; however, based on past threads I read on here GP seems not to warranty items bought off of places like Amazon. I got free shipping with Mac. I would had to pay $6 shipping if I went with Amazon.

I got my Duo socket today....works like a charm, slides onto the swelled lug nuts and fits perfect with no slop.

REPLACE THE LUG NUTS

when you get a flat in East Bumfark some cold rainy night and all you have is your factory lug wrench you'll be happy you replaced them

This is an ongoing problem with a lot of Fords, to the point of class action law suits.

Ko-ken makes 3/8 thin wall impacts in those sizes (21/22mm) 13301M-**

But I agree with the "replace them" sentiments
