Thin wall sockets

Hello All!
I am wondering is there is a tool manufacturer that makes either a thin wall, or super thin wall sockets. What I'm dealing with is an adapter for a compression tester is in the head of my honda. The problem being is that the spark plug tube is very small. Its just big enough for the 5/8ths plug wrench to fit down the tube, and the size for the adapter is a 13/16th. My other thought is using some loc tite to put a long bolt onto the adapter with hopes of it holding enough to back it out. Any thoughts?

that's a big jump in size, your best bet is to turn down a 13/16th socket on a lathe to make it as thin walled as possible.

For a ready-made solution, a quick google search came up with this.


edit; Koken's deep wall chrome 13/16ths 3/8" drive 6 point socket is precisely 27mm in overall diameter at the hex end, and 26mm at the drive end. 27mm translates to 1.063 inches.

Snap-On's equivalent has a diameter of 1-1/16th, or 1.0625 inches, which is just ever so slightly smaller than Koken's.
If you can accurately measure the spark plug well's diameter, you can see if that will fit.

It sounds like you have a weird tester. Doesn't this have a hose crimped to it? If so how do you plan on using a socket? If you're sure you got the right fitting you may need to remove the valve cover to do the test.

Look for a stamped metal spark plug wrench that is the right size (like for lawnmowers). Weld a cheap socket on the other end (in the tube) to use a ratchet with it.

(This assumes that I'm understanding the problem correctly. I'm not a mechanic)

It was a cheap tester that a friend of mine had. It does have a hose crimped to it, but had an adapter for the smaller spark plug. That adapter is stuck to it. I just ordered a thin wall socket.

I've made several thin wall and bell shaped sockets for special uses simply by taking a socket and slowly turning it on my grinder's wheel. Takes a little while but actually comes out pretty well if I take my time. A lathe would have been better but is not necessary.

Also, I try to never get rid of old or beat up sockets and wrenches. I keep them so I have something on hand to modify, cut, bend or grind down when I need them.
