I was wandering around Lowes and found these little gems, yeah I don't get out much.
They are perfect for my needs and I can move them anytime to anywhere more suitable.
I've used a magnetic knife rack for my tool wrenches for years but they require drilling holes and I saw an empty bin near these that looks like it does the same thing, no drilling holes.
Anyone else favor magnets?

I keep a magnetic paper towel holder like that (from HF) attached to my popcorn machine. I also have two magnetic disposable glove box holders on my toolboxes. Some of these magnetic attachments are really convenient.

Been entertaining a few ideas using magnetic accessories and magnets with my tools since getting one of those HF workcarts with the big lid.

Seeing a lot lot of preformed items some good some bad on amazon recently

Like mag tool bar in different lengths and side storage boxes,

Would like to attach magnetically some material maybe a piece of peg board for battery charger mounting, along one side of the cart. So considering to maybe try and cut some of freebie HF mag bars for some more tool box customizing ideas don't know if I will have any success though magnets can be so brittle.

I did use some 3m double sided tape to mount the power bar but magnets would allow for easy removal and additional placement. HF also sells some inexpensive but pretty strong round cup magnets with countersunk mounting holes, That's what I used on my Milwaukee stick light.

Mine holds very well on a vertical surface, but if I loaded it with shop towels (I use plain white paper towels), I could picture it sliding a bit if I pulled quickly. I could not imaging it pulling off. Magnets take MUCH more force to pull off than they do to slide a little.

The OP's use on the underside of a metal cabinet is an ideal place for magnets. Vertical surfaces are more challenging.

I've been using the HF paper towel holders for years. The only fail was in my rough riding van; they would move around. I like their magnetic LED lights, too, although they aren't much good on the aluminum hood of my Miata.

I have a bunch of the magnetic towel holders but only one holds towels. My shop walls are steel so one half of the towel holder makes a great hook for hanging my welding helmet, Face shield, hard hat, and a shop apron.

I really like the HF glove box holder/dispensers. They hold nicely on the side of my tool box.

I have two of the sets in the top of one of my toolboxes. One holds blue towels the other regular white ones. There is also two of the glove box holders. One with latex gloves the other with the blue ones.

Yep, I bet those are made in the exact same factory as the $8 HF ones.

I have a set in the garage and a set on the stacked washer next to the laundry sink.

I like that. I have magnets screwed to the sides of my tablesaw push sticks. There's always several stuck to the side of my saw at any time. I also have a few carpenter's pencils with magnets attached.

Small magnets attached to the caps with heat shrink tubing.
When the Sharpie wears out, the cap can be reused on a new one.

One black Sharpie, and one silver sharpie.

Not my idea, just using an idea that was posted here.

The spray can holders are great for beer!

Otherwise I don't have a ton of magnetic surfaces in my garage, so my usage is kind of limited. However, I love the magnetic trays for bolts, I've got a pretty large collection of them that gets used for organizing things when I'm taking them apart.

I have used the Harbor Freight one for years now. They also sell a glove holder that is super helpful.

On my split top snapon roll cart, I ha e a small bucket, the kind that hand wipes come in. I would say it is about a gallon. Added a large round magnet to the bottom with a small nut and bolt. This serves as a small trash can that I use for all the little plastic bags and small debris. Also took a small round plastic protector cup that comes on wheel hubs for the Chevy caprice, added a magnet to the bottom. It is the perfect size for my coffee cup, bottle of water.

Yup and being free almost cant beat them for decent socket rails for drawers by bolting two back to back with small screws and nuts thru the predrilled holes... one magnet up to hold the standing sockets the other down to locate the rail in the drawer.

I have learned to look them over a little better in the store too than to just grab the first one on the hook. There are usually some variances in the edges of the steel channel that encompasses the magnet the more flush the two are all the better for firmly attaching the larger sockets like 1/2"

But pretty much they will all attach very firmly to the bottom of a metal drawer and should hold what ever sizes you have without leaving skipped spaces or needing the feeling to have to buy more sockets for the **** type

I’ve got a HF magnetic tool holder mounted to my roll around cart. These run on sale, and even are free with coupon sometimes. You can pop out the magnets, and shorten the bar if you need a custom length.


Also nearly a dozen magnetic parts trays floating around. I use them all the time, and grab a few when they go on sale.

I’m about to grab a paper towel holder and gloves dispenser, to reclaim some work surface space on my chest.

I also have the Harbor Freight version for paper towels. It works great. Did you see the Craftsman magnetic drink holder? I picked one of these up last weekend. The magnets are very strong. I added it to the side of my tool cart.

Look at this smarty-pants. I might have to try that one. For those times your preparing or just cleaning maybe you could snap regular silverware there to keep it out of the way too.

They have multiple uses as well. I use a set to hold up my knee pad on the back of my box.

I'm sure there's a better way to do it. For my purposes, my approach was "not just good, but good enough". I'm just trying to highlight its shortcomings for the next guy who tries it.

Next time you see a refrigerator getting scrapped, cut the door seal magnets off.
10' of magnets that you can cut with scissors. Handy for keeping drawings from blowing away and holding light tools to the rool cab.
I also hot glue a strip to the caps of my pens like suggested earlier.

Regarding the sliding on vertical surfaces issue... We use magnetic clipboard hooks on our printers at work to log repairs. They would slide down due to the vibration. I spray mounted some of that anti slip drawer liner/mat stuff on the back side and we never had another problem. They only used large fridge magnets too, not those rare earth monsters.

The magnetic paper towel holders are great. I also have a couple box-o-gloves holders and 2 or 3 magnetic parts trays. I have a towel roll holder and glove box mounted to the side of my tool box and another glove box mounted on one of the legs of my 4 post lift.

The magnetic trays have to be some of the most useful things I ever bought.

I also now only buy flashlights with magnetic bases for the shop.
