Think about the HF 26" combo

So I really need a toolbox to get all my tools in one place and off the floor. I narrowed my choices down to the the HF 26" combo or the 44" bottom (and add on later). I think I will be forced to get the 26" though since we currently have no garage and the box needs to make its way into the basement.

I looked at all the boxes at HF today and there is a noticeable step up in quality from the the boxes I checked out at Lowe's, Home Depot and Sears. The 44" box seemed to be a bit sturdier than the 26", both in the draws and the frame (especially around the casters); but then again it's a bigger box with more capacity. Whichever box I get won't get moved around much or over harsh floors, so I guess that point is moot.

I couldn't find much feedback on the 26" box online. Does anyone here have one? Any problems? Is there a coupon active for the 26" (I found one for $349.99 for the 44" bottom)? Constructive input appreciated.

I own the 44 and love it. I was really more impressed in store by the 26 combo but went with the 44 for storage. I'd love to add the 26 to the collection someday.

I'd much rather have the 44", if you could fit either one. I have it and I've been really happy with it.

But, if space is a concern, I'm sure the 26" will work fine. I've fondled it in the store.

I bought the 26'' a little over a year ago. I use the piss out of it and its held up great. My issue is that im starting to run out of room. The drawer layout is good but my tool set is just too extensive. depending on what you own you might want the 44''/ I know i wish i did.

30" or 36" Menards boxes are great - if you have a Menards near you?

Space can be made, it's moving the box down the basement steps that is the possible problem.

Forgot to mention I'm in NJ, closest Menard's is over 300 miles away! Too bad, I actually like the green boxes. :spit:

how do you plan to move the box down stairs? appliance dolly? carry it? on a skid?
I would go with the 44'' unit and get a friend to help take it down stairs. if you have an appliance dolly I would pad the box and tip it on its end on the dolly. if you are going to carry it you can remove some drawers and remember when you go to move it out of the basement you will need to either remove the drawers to keep the stuff in it or empty out the drawers no matter what box you get

So how much are those HF top and bottom 26" tool boxes? What all coupons can be used on them?

I went this week to Home Depot in OKC trying to get the clearance deal but no luck. Their "newer" 26" or 27" were pretty nice though with ball bearing drawers that latched well . . . much better in my opinion to the comparable Craftsman ball bearing models. Only Craftsman I liked in the store were the Griplatch but those are way too expensive when I could buy a used set of SnapOn's for not much more than CM.

The plan was to unpack it from the crate, remove all the drawers and carry down the stairs. I can back the pickup right to the porch, move it 5 feet and be through the front door. Thanks for the tips, we'll see.

The 26" chest and cabinet are currently $359.99, I haven't found any coupon that's still active.

I have the HF 26 in. combo it i a very sturdy box i still dont have it foll yet. I also bought the craftsman 26in. combo just recently got a super price on it the HF box is twice the box that the craftsman one is. Craftsman is just putting out some pretty cheapo boxes anymore no wonder they are having problems.
