Posted this in the yard sale thread, but thought maybe I should put it here also. Is that ok, do you think? Anyway, here goes:

Had no time for yard sales this week, and a busy Saturday too. Wife went to last day of an estate sale though, and texted me a photo of a Craftsman tool box, to see if I wanted it.

She told me the price was $120, but then followed with another text to say it was 75% off, due to last day of sale. I texted back that it should be no more than about $50, so I would take it. When she got home with it, she had negotiated the price to $30. I love this woman! :rocker:

The box has little diagrams on the inside of each of the three panels, showing which tools go where. Makes it much easier to fill, I suppose.

Love the little swing out compartments, for small items. And LOOK! I got free stuff with it, such as a GM water pump gasket. LOL :eyecrazy:

All in all, I think she did pretty well. Only problem is, I have no wall space left. Now I've got to try and find a place to put it.

Nice score on both fronts (wife & toolbox). Mine was sewing yesterday while I was out on my ATV, I think I'll have a bunch of golf-themed hanks today :)

Lump: obviously you stood in line and waited for the upgrades when picking your bride. WELL DONE SIR.

cabinet is pretty cool too and i hear you on trying to find a wall for all our cool stuff. one thing i saw Nines and maybe a few other members do is put a wall in between (or down the middle of) their 2 and three car garages and shops to get more wall space for one reason or another.

i also kinda like the artwork that is self describing what might be inside.

nice find too.

That is a great score! I love the little outlines so you know where the tools are supposed to go. Very cool!!

Your wife is awesome. :D

Nice score, I want to grab one of those cabinets but Crafstman stuff is quite scarce around here and I don't think my chances are really good but I'll keep looking that's for sure!

Please tell me you didn't pay $120 for that?

WTF, ok, I'll gladly tell you that. If you read the thread and look at all the photos, you'll see that it was reduced by 75%, due to it being the last day of the estate sale. But you'll also read that my pretty wife negotiated with them, and got it further reduced to only $30 total. But thanks for your concern.

I guess he deserved that. ;):D

Nice box. I don't think I've ever seen one.

Lump,

Love that cabinet. Looks like it needs minimal clean-up and I agree the fold out trays on the bottom are cool and all for a lowly $30. I think you owe the wife a nice dinner out for that one.

It's a good price for $30. I just see people paying way too much for used tools around here, because they're "old" (and therefor automatically better somehow).

Just my own opinion.

Here in CA the DMV has added a special license plate that hearkens back the the 60's in that it is black with gold alphanumerics. They are selling like hotcakes and the wait is in months. I see them on brand new cars and trucks. Does that tell you something about Americana?

Everyone would like to see many things 'they way we were' instead of the throwaway chicom economy that we live in today. AFA spending on old tools, cabinets and boxes is concerned, have you seen the prices for an old gas station Alemite work station lately? They're in the $1000's. An old floor jack can cost more than a new one, and so on.

It's a hobby and hobbies are often expensive.

Never mind a big workstation. I always said I'd buy an Air Meter when I had a garage. A quick google search quickly put an end to that, until I change jobs a few times or win the lottery, whichever happens first. But I will own one.

Guess I'm a little slow with math, but, to me, 75% off of $120 IS $30.

HA! Al, you're right. So I asked my wife about that, and she just smiled and said, "You're the one who thought it should come to about $50, and ASSUMED I negotiated them down."

LOL. I love this woman.

I notice that too. I've never paid more than a buck for a wrench at yard sales etc except old ford wrenches for my grandpa. This I'll pay two bucks for. Someone told me no way would I get plomb tools with that thinking. I have a few really big plomb wrenches
