You'd have to have a smaller triangle file for the small teeth on the tip - and then a bigger triangle file for the teeth in the middle - but it could be done. Always push a file; never pull it.

I could, sure, but.... the induction hardened tips are all worn off and my laser hardener is on the fritz... :pimpflash

I bought these in, I think, 1993 for the what seemed exorbitant price of $23.00. They owe me nothing!

 Important. Theres no point getting maximum life out of your pliers if doing so kills good files.

There's no question that your re-sharpened teeth wont stay sharp as log as the factory original edge but so what. It should take less than 10 minutes to sharpen them anyway.

Aw, go help stimulate the economy, buy a pair of Knipex .. and keep the old ones as backup .. :)

This is the best answer. He can use new pliers for nut busting and stuff and the old re sharpened ones for soft copper & brass.

Yeah, I know how to file. In shop class (let's see, ummm, 198.....4!), Mr. Olsen gave us each a piece of rectangular stock and said: make it round.

I learned all about chalk and pins, pushing and pulling, carding (fairly useless) and soaking files in acid to resharpen.

Always push a file; never pull it.

Kind of the way I'm thinking. I did buy a new pair of Raptors a few weeks ago - seriously nice pliers.

I would be proud to wear out a tool like that. I buy these tools but definitely don't use them enough.

use a grinder to smooth out the jaws a bit and then install some soft jaws on them and you can use them for things you want to grip without marring

Now, that's an even better idea. i could custom carve some UHMW plastic, drill a couple holes and make inserts to hold them on the jaws.

Should be good for a Saturday morning...

Files are designed to cut on the forward stroke only........so by pulling on the file, not only are you not benefitting from it's full potential, you are also dulling it.

Didn't know that, thanks for the tip. This is why its so important to be observant and ask questions. I figure I can learn from everyone.

would be worth a try before spending more $$

Time is money, if you like the old alligators they are only $14

You'll never get it just like the factory grip again, and its going to be a softer material as you dig in further from the induction hardened tips.

I like the jaw protector idea, they sell 10 packs of plastic caps that fit on alligator and cobra jaws.
