hello, I'm fairly a new guy on here.......I have an opportunity to buy a Kellog-American Compressor, it is just missing the motor. It says on the tank tag, it was made in 1954 and the model # is B331UA and serial # is B332911, not sure if it's a 60 or 80 gallon though. Not sure of the HP either. The person that is selling it, said they had a 5 HP motor on it. It was used in a salvage yard, a pretty big one in my area, I looked at the oil and it was at the correct level and pretty clean. The price he is wanting is $200. Would that be a bad buy?? At least it's AMERICAN made and from what others have said, they are rebuildable. I was thinking about buying the one from Harbor-Freight, the one for $700. But I'm really considering this. Sounds like it would be cheaper over the long run.

Thanks for reading this and any help would be appreciated on this.

BILL

If you can find a good used motor, yes, but a new china 1 that size is going to be $300, your up to 5 so.....tough call. Used motors are hard to find.

I have a 80 Gallon 3 HP Kellogg American that was built in 1954 also.
I got it out of an old Service Station that was closing.
It ran all the air through out the station, including the Lifts.
I used it for the last 25 years and rebuilt it in 2008.

The Motor has to weigh 120-150 lbs all by itself.
The Entire Compressor is a Beast!
Runs super Quite and build PSI Fast.
Mine has never been painted, but the Motor was replaced before I got it.

Its worth Buying for sure.
Mine was worth rebuilding, new pistons, rings, bearing, seals and valves.
Runs like it did, way back in 1954!
