I really hate to say it, but no way, no how, no time am I going to join the Alliance... I spend too much money because of this place already! :lol_hitti

The beauty of the Alliance is that you don't have to... You can continue to use the site as is... on me... not a problem at all. :)

I don't know... The temptation of all those discounts at those great places just might be too much for me. You know, like an alcoholic hanging out in bars and trying not to drink. :D

Just look at what you will save  and the little you spend to be an Alliance member helps to run the forum.
You just have to do it wisely. I doubt my first year membership will do much at all but in time I believe I can see some savings.

The direct picture uploading would be great... I''d have a bit to contribute but don't because the few times I've uploaded pics to one of the seven sites I visit, it's a cast iron PITA, and I ain't got time nor patience. I'd be down, that's where my Rodders Journal money could go! (Getting DAMN TIRED of skinny-tired 32's ad nauseam.)

I can't pay all the folks who have provided advise on my build or other issues, but the garage forum Gave me access to these people. I think that paying for this privilege makes sense. If paying a fee gives me the other discounts, like Cocker tire then I am game. I now spend more time on garage journal than I spend reading magazines.

So I am ok with this.

Nope. I'm not interested in taking away functionality from folks. I always think about the guy that is having a rough year or something... and I just make it worse because he can't afford to search... ya know?

And that my friends is why Ryan is a stand up guy!!!

Don't know if you could do it or not but a discount at the big box stores(HD, L) would be fantastic. Everyone on here is buying stuff to either build or improve their garage, delivering a few 100K cash ready guys to the big boxes might be incentive to at least get contractor discounts...

You would be THE MAN!!!!

I'm in....

Im in....I like the box tag idea, I would be willing to go in with $50 a year for the discounts and the box tag. I probably will not even be able to buy much the next few years, but getting in on the ground level and assumimg the box tags are damn nice, they would have to be to make it on my boxes, or even make them magnetic, I am in. I think the first tags should be in honnor of year 1, and have the option to buy extra tags as a fund raiser and chance for guys like me with boxes in two locations to get them on my home box and box at the shop.

But the good thing for you is being a HAMB Alliance member you are already part of the Alliance and you do not have to pay up again.

Yeah, I suppose that is true. But I don't really consider it paying up. I consider it helping out. The better this place runs the better it will be for you and me.

Im not one of the diehard GJ guys, but I do know a few of you personally, and I have gotten some good deals on stuff via PM ... So why not?

Griots is already on the list - check it out!

I love Griots... Always have... Their catalogs are just so damned great. In any case, yes they are currently HAMB Alliance vendors and will be TGJ Alliance Vendors the day we launch.

Hope you (and HOTFR8) realize the humor meant in my posts!

Yes sir, hence the smiling face... I was worried you would think that.

:) Yes I got it

Yeah, I suppose that is true. But I don't really consider it paying up. I consider it helping out. The better this place runs the better it will be for you and me.

 Good point, if I was on the HAMB I would have joined the Alliance ages ago. I am not the usual type of Hot Rodder so my ideas (Diesel:wtf:) may not be accepted or liked on the HAMB and that is one reason why I am here. I prefer to be in the Garage tinkering.

This place is like a family. Remember Secret Santa last year? How some people went above and beyond in their gifts was really touching.

I'd kick in $50.

You guys kill me...

Hey Ryan, you have a list of participant vendors for this other than the ones that are in on the HAMB Alliance?

I don't... That was kind of the point of this thread. I need to get to work finding vendors. I will be on the phone with Bendpak, Sears, and... SnapOn (how about that?) next week.

Been a HAMB member for years and the alliance pays for itself the first time you shop with a vendor. Ryan's done a great job with the HAMB and see no reason GJ will be any different. I'M IN!!!!

That's good idea in principle. I think 50 may be a stretch and scare some prospects away. Advertisers on other forums that I belong to, are a mixed bag of retailers. Some good and some bad. Having them in a special section seems to work and they are then left to the users descression as to whether or not to use them. I have seen the group buy option save alot of money off of popular items. It seems to be a win, win situation. Providing the vendor delivers what he says he can. Now having said that I have seen the opposite happen. where they put ads in threads. That *****.
I think this site is totally awesome. I have learned alot from it in the short time that I have been here. It is nice to see that others share my paasion for tools. You have the right idea about not changing the members exposure to the site. I'm behind you whatever you decide to do. If the price is right you will get alot of Alliance members, me included.

I'd be in. Get BendPak to do a discounted accessory pack (castor, jack tray, drip trays) with an HD-9 :)

I have to agree as I believe my $50-00 will be about $75-00. Not knowing how the Aust members on the HAMB fair in this area.

I'm behind you whatever you decide to do. If the price is right you will get alot of Alliance members, me included.

I still believe more would join if it was $25-00 or $30-00 US. But then Ryan may have a better idea on his figures etc.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. I've always enjoyed the way this site was put together, and having ads in the threads would really ****. The list of retailers will make a big difference to certain people. However, I'm in for the $50 and I'll take whatever perks come with it.

This is exactly right... The only difference between a member with the HAMB Alliance and a member with the Garage Journal alliance would be what you get in the mail (timing tag vs. tool box tag). Both members would share the exact same discounts from the exact same vendors.

Essentially, by adding the Garage Journal we are simply creating a bigger power that will hopefully provide more exposure to our vendors and bigger discounts to our members.

I'm more of an idealist than a capitalist... Always have been.

Didn't realize this thread was kinda old, but what about guys who are members on the hamb and here on gj that may want a tag from both sites? toss in a few bucks for the extra tag?
