Thinking of adding a Loft

I'm considering adding a loft for more storage in my shop. It would be about 6'8" x 14'.

Anyone have any ballpark for what size joists I should use and what size post to put in the corner? I'd like to try and get away with only one vertical post.

I plan on using a step ladder to access it so that I don't need stairs going up to it.

Here's a picture of the corner I'm hoping to put it in. The plan is to put it at the height where the plywood part of the wall stop, so about 8' off the ground.

6'8" would bring it right up to the edge of the garage door on the back of the shop and 14' brings it just past the window on the left.

Oddly enough. Most of what I want to store up there are in those buckets right next to that white shelf in the middle of the picture. I'd also move the network rack hanging on the wall up onto it.

There are probably real calculations, but the barn I dismantled had a hay loft with 2x6's 16" OC that spanned 12'. Very sturdy and it was that way for probably 30 years.

IMHO, 14' 2X6 joists well supported on the ends will get you by.

My advice is guaranteed to be worth exactly what you pay me for it.
