A contour gage choice depends on how accurate you want to be. There are 2 types....bars and pins. Pins will give better accuracy but are subject to damage. Most have 32 pins per inch. And a pin gage seems stiffer to move over the plastic bar gages.
With the plastic bar gages you want to look at the accuracy of the gage, and the working depth. Some will have 3" in depth like the General, and some will have a deeper working depth. But also with the plastic gages, the width of the bars make a difference. The thinner the bars, the more accurate the gage.
So before you rush out and order one or buy one, consider what you will be basically using it for. If it's for cutting deck boards around rocks, or square post, a cheaper gage will suit you. If you are going to be using it for finish work like tile and trim in a house, then a more expensive gage would be better.
