Yeah...rethinking things, I guess. It is making me believe that I will be walking aroung drenched in sweat and fighting off gators and poisonous bugs while trying to survive the swim in the hurricane. Maybe south GA isnt for my family. What a shame, we found a beautiful house with a pond. But the pond is loaded with gators I suppose.
You seriously are overthinking the small stuff. Having lived on the east coast, south, midwest, europe, and a few areas in asia, you don't need to concern your self with the above listed things so much.
Can it get hot and humid? 2 weeks after graduating high school in michigan, I began my journey in south carolina. I sweat my ever loving *** off and thought I was going to die. That was due to physical exertion outside all summer in long sleeves. I got the same lecture about wildlife and insects. Never did have a chance to see all those things they warned me about.
Before that (spring break in highschool) while visiting georgia and florida, I actually had to pay money to go on an "excursion" to find alligators. The fee was just for the air boat ride, but I wanted to go to see one in person. The boat was fun and all, but did have to trek quite a distance into the swamp in order to finally see one up close and in person. Maybe 45 minutes away from "civilization". Pretty disappointing. Lazy floating animals. Saw one dart across the road in the middle of the night and haven't saw any since then. Don't care to look either.
I have not saw a snake since leaving michigan and don't care to look for em. They are definitely out there but I personally don't see them.
NOW FOR THE IRONY
Wisconsin has 2 kinds of venomous snakes of the rattler family.
Furthermore, having been to wisconsin as well (an offroad driving class deep in the woods), the very first lecture I got was about "dangerous wildlife" and potential attacks from bears, cougars, bobcats, rattlers, badgers, wolves, coyotes, and insects. Seems everyone is obsessed with critters. Suffice it to say, I have never saw any of those, even though locals claim so much of a problem.
Moral of the story? Don't get to worked up with wildlife. Especially since you have already experienced most of it. It's no big deal, croc hunter. Deer kill more people in the US than any other wild animal (due to attacks)

More thought on "work ethics". Now I have realized in certain aspects this does seem to be true. Now that someone mention productivity and relaxed. I do see a bit more disregard for procedures and more of the "make it happen" creed. Also a little more disregard for what is called "professionalism" in the north, in order to "make it happen". Translation? Possibly cruder methods, cruder language/professionalism in front of outsiders, unorthodox creativity, resulting in increased productivity. Definitely dependent on individual company.

Hurricanes. What can I say? $#1+ happens. It's possible to experience their wrath. Possible to have tornados almost anywhere. Possible to flood almost anywhere. More likely to slide off into a ditch in an ice storm or have a roof collapse in northern wisconsin. Has it ever happened to you? Probably not.
no A/C or decent pay in the south
trust me
Tell me why you should be trusted? Tell me your pay rate and what was offered somewhere in the south? Tell me about New jersey's booming economy and wonderfully low tax rates. Tell me about their excellent cost of living. I am all ears. Sell me on the idea of moving to that wonderful state when everyone else is leaving it (except for people moving in from the territory of puerto rico)
In the past you have pissed and moaned about not making enough as a mech on the east coast, explain why I should believe it is even worse everywhere else?
