Model railroaders have been thinning acrylic paint with Windex for years.
It works great. You can also use denatured alcohol in place of water. It thins a little better and flashes off a little faster.

Floetrol and some quality rollers/brushes and you'll have a great finish without all the BS.

When thinning and spraying with my Graco HVLP I always spend the extra dollar and thin acrylic/latex paints with distilled water. The resulting finish is much better and as we all know you never know what's in tap water and how it may affect the paint and/or finish.....

I'm having a hard time imagining something in clear water that has enough substance to make paint behave differently than with distilled water.
Especially "much" different

Chlorine, fluoride and who know what else is in tap water, do think that paint manufacturers use tap water.? What I do know after using distilled water to thin paint I have obtained better results on crown and base moldings....
