Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on thinning out Zinnser's BIN Primer to spray it out of an HVLP gun. Read the can, it says not to thin it but my HVLP only has a 1.4mm tip.

Im spraying some MDF cabinet fronts.

Thinning BIN? That stuff is already as thin as water. I shoot it straight out of the can. I've used 1.2 and 1.4 mm needle, maybe a 1.7 mm.

I suppose you could "cut it" with denatured alcohol if you wanted, but not necessary. I "think" it is something like a 2 lb cut out of the can? I'm sure there are formulas for thinning to a 1 1/2 cut.

Dries super fast. Ready to sand and apply topcoat in about 30 minutes +/- at room temperature.

I've shot it with a 1.3 unthinned using a turbine unit. No problems

I just shot some though a porter cable HVLP gun this fall, no thinner, strait out of the can. 20lbs. Psi. Total time saver vs. rolling.

I spray it every day with my hvlp with a PPS cup so I guess viscosity isn’t that important to me. It sprays perfectly fine from the can, it’s basically like watery milk already. If you have to thin it then more denatured alcohol, but it’ll be superrrrr thin and runny
