Another way to phrase the question... is do I need to payup for performance?

I work at a benz dealer. I bought a mac thin walled 17mm impact for lug nuts. (It has a plastic sleeve on it ti protect the rims). The socket probably lasts me 3 months before it cracks and i have to warranty it.

Do they generally break before they wear out [ie, non lugnut ones] ?

I have a Snap On 19mm & 21mm thin wall socket. As mentioned if been used every day they last about 3-6 months and will crack down the side. These again are for wheels, but never had one wear out just cracks.

Go with the one with protection sleeve its dual purpose and only will benefit you I have had my Cornwell set for about 7 years now with out an issue

The only exception I have seen is the amg Benz wheels need deeper protection sockets which hazet makes but expensive and good luck with warranty easily in the us

If he doesnt warranty them for me, then he doesnt get my business. So yes they get taken care of, never had a issue and I am sure that would go for most dealers of truck brands.
