Hi

I have an Elektra Beckum KG303 (Metabo) cross cut and mitre saw. I bought it 6 or 7 years ago before lasers became common place. I notice in the US they sell add on laser guides from Irwin, Oshlun, Infiniter and Bosch but you don't see them in Europe.

Are they worth buying or just a gimmick, which is the best ?

I haven't tried the aftermarket laser guides. One thing you might want to check, is if the laser guides sold for the North American market would fit on a saw sold in Europe. Miter Saws sold in the US typically have arbors in fractional inch sizes. The European saws I've seen usually have metric arbors.

Thanks, I had thought that may be one reason you don't see them over here, they still advertise on ebay though !

I notice you spell mitre differently as well :)

edit - I dug out the manual for my saw, I found it has the european 30mm arbor, the other instructions I downloaded off the internet showed the US version of the saw which had the 5/8 arbor.

So that probably explains the lack of european outlets for these devices

Thanks Monte,

KGS 303

My saw is an Elektra Beckum Metabo (1.8KW 230v) , just before they changed to Metabo branding. I got it on a good deal with the table thrown in, I like to look out for bargains :)

Are the current Metabo Mitre saws still made in Germany, they seem a lot cheaper than the Elektra Beckum's ?

The Metabo KGS 216 and 254M are imported, the KGS 254 I Plus, KGS 254 Plus and KGS 315 Plus are from germany iirc.
