Came across this box last night and he wants $85 for it, what would you guys do? Now how is this compared to the harbor freight 4 drawer tool cart? Given that there is about a $15 difference.. opinions please!

-Thank you all!

Can't see in the pic, but is that a ball bearing box??

If so not too bad of a price. Personally I'd offer a little less

If its ball bearing slides I would make another offer of $70.If he wont take that then I would do the 85.But looking at the picture it seems to have the badge for ball bearing. It would certainly have more storage space than the 4 drawer hf tool cart.Could always add a box to the top.

Do you mean "Quiet Glide"?

If quiet glide/friction slides, that's bottom of the line.

I think those 4 dwr C'man boxes were around $100 new.

Given the lack of dwrs and model, they are good for storing power tools in if in their blow molded cases.

For hand tool storage, they blow.
$50 box top price for me if Quiet Glide.

Unless you really, really, really, really, really need a box.
If ya need it and it's bearing slides, $75.

Any more and it's still a 4 dwr deep dwr box.

I think the seller is referring to quiet glides aswell.. hmm.. if they're friction slides that's a no go for me, unless I get them for like $50 I actually have a toolbox already with those slides and they slide like ****, even already degreased the slides lubed them, just like the smootheness of ball bearings.

LOL.

I have a C'man 5 dwr Quiet Glide bottom box in my basement that I bought for a temp job years ago that I kept stepping up from.

I have a deep dwr in it loaded down to f&^( with impacts sockets just to see how long it will last and really just to piss the box off and make me chuckle every time I crank that dwr,. out.

The Quiet Glide boxes are not hateful, just WAY below the mark if used regularly, daily or for heavy hand tools.

The $289 Hf bearing slide 3 box stacker is where it's at for a under 30" wide box .

Its ball bearing, it has the sticker. That is the standard grade with ball bearings, not the el cheapo ones. Is it a bad it little bottom, no not really, but $50 is my top offer.

I just bought that bottom, a middle and top for $130 thinking I got a deal. We agreed on the price and he delivered, it looked great. all my shop neighbors were digging the nice "new to me" box, everything was fine. then I got it inside and filled a drawer with wrenches, box felt wobbly. added some sockets and ratchets to another drawer and the thing felt like it was going to collapse. I got instant buyers remorse and will be re-selling it asap.
is it nice looking, yes.
does it hold tools, yes.
does it scare you when you open a drawer with more than 3lbs in it, yes.

it may work fine for a computer tech or someone with tiny screwdrivers and small pliers but when you lay out a single layer of any sockets/wrenches/ratchets/etc to fill the drawer, that drawer feels like it will break off when you open it. I didn't even get to put tools in the bottom cabinet drawers, I started at the top and quit after only a few drawers. made me sick really.

X2 on what nine4GMC said. At my last job all the mechanics got one to roll around and I got to take mine home after they bought us new ones. The drawers don't stay in the tracks, the whole box is flimsy. We tried a few different things to make them last but in the end its a cheap cheap box. Save your money for a better one unless you absol....no just save your money for a better one.

You guys are referring to the box if it was going to be only the friction slides right? Now if it was ball bearings this would be a whole different story right?

I'd suggest checking out Sears, Home depot and Lowes in your area for a scratch and dent box. These generally have small cosmetic flaws and can be found marked down 40, 50 percent and more.

Most of the boxes I have, I got in this manner

NO! Save your money and hold out for a better box. That box is not the paneled-sided box with a higher weight rating . It is a lightweight homeowner box with low end ball bearing slides. Read the reviews on the Sears.com site. Wait for a better deal on a real box, Craftsman or otherwise- they are out there.

i believe that box is actually a low grade, lower than the quietglide models. there are basic cheap bearing models(non I-frame), then quietglide(I-frame), then a couple grades of ball bearings above that.

if i remember right, the grey and black were low end, the I-frame models dont have a protruding handle like that. they are recessed into the frame.

So what do I have? My 26'' 5 drawer bottom has the recessed handle, but only std friction slides. No quiet glide or ball bearing. Whatever it is, it's loaded hard and hasn't given trouble. I've used it quite regular a good while, and the man I bought it from had just retired from the air port in Nashville after the box served his needs as an aviation mechanic there. He had it loaded worse than me. After he took all his tools out and we loaded the empty box in my truck I about dropped a nut getting the bottom box out of my truck once I got it home. It weighs more than the newer 5 drawer 26'' ball bearing bottoms that I easily picked all 4 wheels off the floor at Sears before deciding to buy an older used one. :headscrat

friction slides are quiet glide. all the rest are ball bearing, unless there were other type of friction slides on much older models. how old is the box? is it I frame?

id bet you have quiet glide slides, and the guy before you took the stickers off.

which does it look like more(excluding color)?

Looks like the one in the top link. Dunno why I was thinking the quiet glides have a nylon insert in the slides though. The last tool certification on the box was in 03, but that was right before he retired. He used it several years before hanging his hat up. My other box wouldn't hold all the tools I had scattered in the shop so I gave him 75.00 for the bottom roller so I could lock up all my tools without buying a huge box. 1 huge box would look better than 2-1/2 boxes, but for now it'll just have to wait. :)

if its ten years old or older, it may very well be an older version of the friction slides. im not sure when they went with the quiet glide name.

but, the older boxes are much better boxes all around. the older friction slides i have seen are totally fine, and work well under load. the quiet glides i have been using for the last few(5ish) years have been over loaded and still work well with zero issues.

This box is indeed the i frame, is it not? He lowered down to $60 putting it up for a yard sale. I may pick it up? Insight please!
