I would say with the amount of brand new snap-on items he is selling....he is a snap-on dealer.

there is a sucker born everyday. I see things on ebay all the time go for over value. A guy the other week was selling the hose pliers for over $30 a piece and you can get all 3 for $55 off the website or truck.

For some reason sellers on ebay demand retail or above for some of their items. It doesnt help that ebayers can be flat out dumb. I sold a headset one time for the PS3 that was $65 new. I used it for 6 months and sold it on ebay for $70. I wasnt trying to rip someone off I started the auction at around $40. The dummies kept raising the bid till they paid more than new for them.

The best are live auctions.....every ounce of grease on a tool ADDS VALUE! People around here pay over brand new list price constantly....its so bad, I quit going to auctions at all.

hahaha

So, if product xyz is being sold at multiple online stores, why is a higher price a "scam"? He is free to set his price and buyers are free to shop for a better price. If someone is savvy enough to shop on ebay I would think they are savvy enough to do a simple search for an item. Maybe they are lazy or maybe it is just convenient for them?

So, being a dealer allows him to mark up items 55%? I assume you'll be paying a 55% markup when you go get a new car.

I'm not really calling him a scammer for charging a 55% markup. I'm more calling him a scammer for calling the handles "new old stock". Yes they are new, old style, but "new old stock" not in the least.

Old news. This guy has been doing this forever. All of the sets he purposely makes sure the PN's aren't in the pictures and never lists the PN's in any of the descriptions. He obviously sells stuff at these insane prices because people don't do their homework. Things are worth what people are willing to pay.

If he's had those for a while and they're unused, then it's quite normal to call them new old stock or unused old stock. Can't see owt wrong with that, personally.

Regarding the price, if people will insist on just blindly buying without doing their homework, they have but themselves to blame. I've seen stuff sell on there for more, in an auction style listing for example, than for the amount specified as a 'Buy it now' price for the exact same item which is at the time currently also listed on there. The seller is doing nothing wrong. Someone buys it else they don't. The buyer makes that choice.

you sell your product at a price level the market will bear. Apparently it's working for him.

There's a seller on ebay selling 3 hard handle replacements as "new old stock" for $85+$shipping. When you can buy them directly from Snap on for $54.65 after tax.

It's sellers on ebay that are blatantly ripping people off that really upsets me.

Anyway here's a link to this scammer:

Well:
Smart people can be good at doing stupid things,
Stupid people can be good at doing smart things,
Some people can be good at understanding these things,
Some people have an opinion about these people and things,
Some people have a fit about these people and the whole thing,
Some people just ignore other people and shop and price things,
Some people; me included; go with the latter, and do our own thing. :willy_nil

Don't let it drive you nuts.. but if you choose to do so, you can
surely find a seller on eBay with a map.

Don't ask.
I use to buy quite a bit on E-bay. It doesn't much resemble an auction anymore. Too many are "no reserve" (with a set opening bid) and "buy it now" items. Often the prices are full retail or higher.
I'd like to find an on-line auction site, like E-bay used to be.

It's not like anyone can't go on Snap-On's site and find out what something costs... no account required. I won't give him a cent of my money, but if he wants to sell overpriced stuff even more overpriced to idiots, more power to him.

There's a guy selling the green handle stripper/crimpers on there for like $70, they list for $43.50. I sent him a best offer for exactly retail hoping he'd catch it... nope, he sent me a counteroffer for $60.

That's just the free market things are worth what people are willing to pay for them.

It's morally wrong to allow a sucker to keep his money.

I see this **** all the time when I am buying Husky tools off ebay.

It seems like there are people that buy a TON of the Christmas Inventory stuff that you can only get that time of year and re-sell for huge mark ups. It pisses me off because I have to sift through pages and pages of adjustable wrenches and ****.

To me at least (and I thought it was commonly understood that) "New Old Stock" meant an item that is no longer in production thus possibly having a higher value due to not being available new (limited supply).

If they were "New Old Stock" they absolutely would be worth more However, since it says USA under the Snap-on logo, and not the model # they absolutely aren't "New Old Stock".

Nope. It can apply equally well to something which is still produced. It merely means stock which has been sat around for some time. Old is merely making a reference of time. The use of the word discontinued would infer they're no longer produced.

I honestly can't see what's the problem with the chaps listing other than that he's charging above book price. It's a simple case of use him or don't, but it doesn't appear he's trying to intentionally mislead.
