Garage selling yesterday. One of the items I came across was this engine hoist. I don't know if it works, the seller didn't know either. He said $20 and you can take it home. Took up too much space at his house so he stuffed it in his trailer. I didn't take it home because I didn't have a way to get it home. Gonna have to borrow a truck. But I took his name and # down so I can call him today.

This is something that I hear of people needing all the time and no one ever has one.

EDIT: I just noticed the lift cylinder isn't even there

Not familiar with the brand. You can get a new 2 ton hoist from HF for about $170 or so on sale.

If it works - I'd say it's worth a good $100-$150 on CL. If it doesn't work, might just need a new seal (probably not a big job). So if you're not gonna keep it, should be worth your while to flip it I would guess.

Looks like the ram is missing, which is the only part that can really go bad. It's worth $20 anyway, and you can put an HF ram on it for cheap.

*edit. I'm not seeing the replacement ram on their site at the moment, but it's usually there and generally $40.

That basically means you could end up with a $60 shop crane with a brand new ram.

Gonna give him a call in a bit and see when he's available today

I have that exact shop crane. Unlike one from HF, mine was made in the USA.

That's the exact one I have, put a HF air over hydraulic cylinder on it, love it!

I would have given $20 for that in a heartbeat.

The industrial wheels are worth $50. Even if it's missing a part or two a guy could build a unit or repair that. You could easily re sell that for $100. Scrap on it is most likely $40.

That's a gift horse.

don't beat yourself up too much. there is always another deal out there. hoists aren't rare and you still would have had to put time and effort into that one.

I wouldn't fault the seller too much, he wanted $20 and the thing out of his trailer, and it went to the first person that was actually going to take it away. 95% of the people at a yard sale that shake your hand and say they will be back tomorrow you never see again.

+1, I've put a couple things aside for people who never came back. You want me to hold something you pay me for the item, then I put it to the side for you to get your truck.
