ive never even heard of this happening...

I'm in the garage and get "locked in" this weekend, temporarily. We have plenty of beer so all is good. Lol. Turns out the strike on the man door somehow musta broke, as the door knobs (inside and out) are turning without engaging.. :eyecrazy:

Luckily I'm inside and can power up the overhead doors, as I usually leave them off for my piece of mind when I'm away. Crazy.

Ill pull the cheapie lockset apart very soon. Have a replacement kwikset (also cheap but no problem for me) to replace it with.

With cheap locksets I have had that flimsy bar twist and snap, among other failures.. I try to stick with at least Schlage, I seem to have bad luck with Kwikset..

At least it wasn't this...

Woman: Hi, I'm at the corner of Pleasant Heel and John Young Parkway. I'm in a Walgreen's parking lot and my car won't start. I'm locked inside my car. I cannot open my car, I can't get the windows down. Nothing electrical works and it's getting very hot in here and I'm not feeling well. I need some help.

911 Operator: Are you able to pull the lock up on the door and open the door? You should be able to pull the lock up even if it's electrical.

Woman: I've tried it...Oh, okay, okay, I've got that going, okay.

911 Operator: So are you able to get out of the car now?

Woman: Yes, I got the door open.

911 Operator: Ok.

Woman: Alrighty, I'll see if I can get AAA or something.

911 Operator: Ok, thank you.

Woman: I'm sorry

911 Operator: That's ok. Bye

Lol! Panic!

At first it was somewhat concerning, until the overhead was opened.

When my Dad was a locksmith, he received a frantic call from a woman who could not unlock her garage door.
Her boyfriend's car was locked inside, and her husband was due to return in an hour.

That was one expensive service call!

I've had the cheap Kwikset locks burn me twice. Both times I was working on something with the big doors open and the wind slammed the small door closed.

Finally figured out they have an adjustment sleeve that moves the latch in and out to accommodate different spacing from the knob to the edge of the door. The impact from the hard slamming caused the sleeve to deform a little allowing it to rotate enough that the knob wouldn't engage the latch any more.

Replaced with Schlage and no further problems.

We've got all Schlage in our new house, and the front door used to fail once in a while. You could open it from the inside, but not outside. It has no lock mechanism; the latch simply wouldn't release. I took it apart, and couldn't see any way that it wouldn't work properly. It only happened maybe once a month or so, and now hasn't happened in over a year. I'm sure I just jinxed myself!

I got locked in once by a cheap handle set. I just took the door hinge pins out to escape.

Heck that woman's phone number might go to top of black book list (if **** prospect). . . .

With a diverted cabinet delivery . . . the "Haugy plan" would spring to life . . .

I've have Kwikset locks and with all of the humidity down here they've turned out ok. The garage door that leads to my house is set up with an electronic keypad lock from kwikset. Its been working for the last 5 years and works great.

Now watch when I go home today the thing dies....

You're so paranoid that you shut the over head door off, but you use the cheapest door locks available?

Please tell me that you are paranoid of something other than theft.
