Been looking for this brake cable tool that usually goes for over $70 and found this place selling it for $30 as well as other tools cheap. If it's too good to be true, it's a scam, right?

Poking Google for

Scam website "onesubic.com"

Does not bring up much. It's trust factor is 77%

Might not be scam, might not be a great business owner, hard to say.

Probably a knockoff of the genuine Schley Products tool. They can be bought on Amazon for the same low price and the listings use the same part number but they are not the real deal.

The genuine product:

That site is doing it wrong:

It's an old domain, but it had no content until recently, poor scoring honestly.

Wayback has it with zero (tool sales) content in 2025, it just recently came up selling tools.

Registration updated 2025-12-22T13:40:25.0Z, so that's pretty darn "fresh".

Ownership is hidden behind "dynadot" which I'm not really familiar with.

Physical address is a PO box in CA, not that the registrars check.

Hosting goes through cloudflare, so that hides the actual host or origin.

Their "about us" doesn't say much. And their privacy policy is probably non-compliant with a bunch of state laws.

Prices in several currencies:

I'm going with 8/10 "sketchy" level.

Best case scenario - this is cheap drop shipping from China.

Worst case scenario - it is a scam and you'll have to open a case with your credit card.

I always look for an actual contact or address - no contact details and I move on. But this is a pretty bad website regardless - even super cheap generic ecom platforms look better than this.

Not necessarily. Quite a bit of Chinese products are simply low priced copies of name brand product made in other countries. This site is probably legit. How could it not be with this gem? :rolleyes2 Besides, it looks like the are selling everything.

This thread seems to follow a common theme.

Instead of simply purchasing the real thing, from the real company - at the real price, we "look for cheap", then wonder "is this item real?"

Probably not. It does not look like a complicated tool so it's probably fine. Go for it.

Yup, was working on my phone on a mtg break. Didn't have the energy to dig that far.

All good points, won't complain about your opinion.

All good.. I was bored. Usually those "rating" websites are pretty good, but not in this case. Thanks for contributing.

100% fake! I ordered valves for my hydronic heating system.
I was not given a receipt when I was given a confirmation, just a "We have received order".
I was given a mile long order number.
And then I was given reasons for delays. Ordered Jan 20, promised delivery 5-10 days, 21 days later their tracking says is was delivered to my P.O. Box. Nothing.
Email inquiries were returned as undeliverable.
Maybe a few people get there goods so they don't get 100% negative ratings.
They stole $58.27 from me.
Now I'm talking to my bank.
A real pain in the a**.
