My house and lot are small compared to some. My garage is 11x20 (roughly) and is to the side of the house but back by 10 feet. It basically takes up a large portion of my back yard. If I ever wanted to build in the back I'd be very limited. So, after racking my brain I though of a possible solution. I could move the garage up to connect sides with the house.
So my question, has anyone ever moved a detatched garage and connected it to their house? If so, what was required in terms of permits and how did they move it. I can post pics if my description is unclear.

There are alot of factors to look at. In my opinion the foundation and the slab are the largest single expence. Alot of prep work to move the structure making sure the base remains square and supported. Sometimes more than the expence to build from new.
..does the new location have the popper foundation and slab..Thickness..strength ??

You need to check your local codes. For instance in outr area here in Pa.
..Attached structures must be 25' from property line and a 50" min. set back from front and rear property lines
..Detached structures 6' from exsisting structure, 6' from side property lines and 50' front to rear setbacks..

As long as your garage is built correctly it can be moved. It will take a great deal of work though. It will also require some tools and materials the average home owner doesn't have. As far as connecting it to your house you will need to check with a local building inspector first. The biggest consideration is the foundation of your house and garage. If you live in an area that gets frost you will need to make sure the garage doesn't heave more then the house.
