yeah that seems a little pricey, then comes the shipping. you can easily replicate it for alot cheaper.

Everything looks easy to make, and most stuff is. It's a matter of whether or not you have the skill and more importantly - the equipment.

Sometimes the cost of the equipment required to make something that looks easy to make can be very expensive - maybe not too bad in the case of this particular table, but equipment, skill and time are required.

Take aluminum weldments, for example. If you have no skill and no equipment, you will spend at least $6 Grand and several months of spending countless hours and dollars before you can even think about welding even the simplest structure together. And that is providing you have the power capability to operate the equipment. Things get expensive very rapidly.

Looks can be deceiving.

Go to local auctions. I have seen several large steel work benches go for $50 and under. I personally bought a large metal cabinet w/ 1/8 top for $40. That included the 5" Wilton bullet mounted on it.

MXtras I agree with you, i have the dry cut saw to cut the stock but not the powerful welder, metalworking is not easy nor the equipments come cheap, so making one is not an option for me.

As for price, I must have been hanging too much around griot's site lately I suppose I saw a $900 bench with woodtop so similar to costco's $200 one.

I just bought a welding table just because the steel prices are so high. For a top it is using a 1/2" plate used for cover open trench during road construction. The top is 7 feet by 4 feet. It has solid casters to move it but I just chain it to my 67 M715 since it weighs a ton.
