This site is no longer secure enough for FireFox's standards

So apparently I just can't use this site anymore, with my favorite browser. Which is firefox. They simply will not let me login. I just upgraded to the latest version of firefox, and after doing some reading, they say to ask the administrator to upgrade to a more secure "TLS". I think it has something to do with the fact that you can't use HTTPS on this site. That secure encryption you can put in front of the web address. So it would be like this:

Insecure address: www.garagejournal.com/forum/


Secure address: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum



I was just hoping I could come by and say something about this, so that I don't have to use Microsoft's Internet explorer. I really dislike that browser as well as google chrome. Its firefox only for me.

Older versions of firefox aren't going to be seeing this problem. They would have been before firefox decided to tighten down on security. I've tried and tried, but I can't find a setting where I can turn that off and just allow me to login to thegaragejournal without it taking me to a page that says "The connection is not secure". Also with no options available on that page, that would be of any help.

I believe that is central to the problem. Firefox seems to be basically insisting that sites allow for (or upgrade to?) the use of HTTPS encryption. Thus, I can log in and post if I use Internet explorer. However since firefox has decided to go more secure, it just won't let me login. This is the case on several of my frequented sites actually. All of the giants, like amazon, ebay, etc have long since allowed for the use of https.

You sure you're not running an extension that forces HTTPS everywhere? I have up-to-date firefox on both mac and PC and am not having your issue.

Https Everywhere is one of the first things I install as soon as I load up a new version. Its running right now

I'll uninstall it and see what happens.

Did it, restarted firefox. No change. But I think that even if HTTPS Everywhere can't do it, it just doesn't do it. You just won't be encrypted, and the site will function as normal. I don't think that it has ever put some kind of a halt on anything. This has to be some kind of Firefox push towards better security.

I think HTTPS everywhere just forces HTTPS on sites that support it, but doesn't prevent you from looking at sites that don't.

I'm confused as to why Firefox appears to only be pushing this higher security level with your machine, and none of the rest of us have encountered the problem. It makes me suspect you have a setting somewhere - maybe not even in Firefox but in your firewall? - that's causing the issue.

I had the same problem, but solved it by installing Firefox's latest version.

Well if you read that other thread that someone linked, its actually a lot of people that are having the problem. Its pretty clear at this point that this site can't make use of https. Not at this time. Although I keep thinking you're right about a setting, but I just can't find which one. I've been combing through them for hours trying all kinds of various combinations, none of them work. Yet when I load up Micro$oft Edge, it all works just fine. Cause edge doesn't seem to care about this whole security issue.

Well I fixed it, by doing "Reset Firefox". I'm not sure what was going on. As I simply downloaded and installed firefox, and then went using it as normal. This forum was one of many sites that it didn't want me to enter my login info. But now, it seems ok. Who knows. Maybe by default, they're trying to push for higher security or something.
