Well, the fundamentals here are...

-Too many Porsches
-Too little "Workspace" in my Single Garage
-Too much need for a "Shop"

So, you can read the backstory on my "Single and Ready To Mingle Garage". That space is 9ft wide and 22ft deep. Not a whole lot of room but I've made it work :)

However, I have a 1990 Porsche 928 + 2006 Cayenne and my 13 year old has a 1987 Porsche 924S.

The two oldest cars become projects occasionally. Wrenching in my single is problematic and I have a limited amount of driveway to host all three cars.

So... while I can't go buy a bigger place... I did find "This Space for Rent..."

It's a really kick **** complex that provides:

-12X30 storage with 14 Foot Roll up Doors
-Free Electric in the Unit
-Free Wi-Fi throughout the property
-24 Hour Secured Access through Gate
-Restroom on-site
-Package Shipping/Receiving on-site
-Liberal "Space Use" polices (just no spraying of paint)
-and a good "No Lease Agreement" monthly rental rate

Here are some pics of the place....

One of my neighbors is an "All-Wood" surfboard builder...

The goals for the place are pretty simple.

1. Has to be a place where I can work and it is a workshop first/storage unit second.
2. Anything I do in this place needs to be done with the mentality that it is temporary (or I could move it all out in a few days)
3. Any element that is not about function or purely about Aesthetics should be considered for the "Showroom"... the Single and Ready to Mingle Garage
4. Must be a place where I fine-tune my ideas about what a workshop should be when I am no longer in "This Space for Rent" mode....

One of the first things I did with the space is create a "Storage Loft" with an Electric Hoist from HF mounted to the beam...

My kids get a kick out of it!

And here it is with the 924S tucked away in the corner. Still room for the 928 (and maybe a mid-rise or four post lift soon)

The "Workshop" was christened with the Cayenne's oil change...

...why the canister oil filter is SOOOOO FRIGGIN HARD to get to is beyond me ;) I consider it to be therapy :)

But I do need more light in there.... that's the next project (coming soon)

Wow, envious of amenities that place offers. Storage places like that would freak around here.

What is the fee a month?

That oil looks very black . . . .

I rent three similar storage units but they don't allow any work or have electricity. You found a good one.

Thanks for the feedback. To answer the most common question, the "All In" amount with taxes monthly is $280ish. That's $120 more than I paid for my last place and it was storage only so this place kicks **** :)

@Cemoto - Good eyes on the oil --- my cars get driven, in fact, none of the cars I own @ present have less than 121K miles. The Cayenne is my "go to" and it gets driven hard/often.

@Thruxton - I've been JEJ3 on Rennlist for 9 years ;)

More updates periodically... thanks for the comments!

Decided to tackle the lighting issues. Single overhead Dual Tube 8' Fluorescent doesn't put out much light (especially under the loft).

Here is the night view with just fluorescent in the shop...

I wired up four 4' fluorescent lights under the loft and an outlet at the front of the loft for the electric hoist. These lights are the ones that hang from chains as I need to adhere to the "move out in days" rule/goal :)

The 6500K lights are sure bright :)

Here is a pic with both sets of lights on followed by just the under-loft lights...

I know this is all temporary but I'm genuinely excited my workspace for the next year or two is coming together.

Here are the wheels I used the electric hoist to lower from the loft. They are being shipped out on Monday to buyers with the proceeds hopefully buying me a good used lift (either mid-rise or four post) when I find one!
