Found this Snap-On Metric / SAE deep / shallow 1/4" drive set at the local pawn shop. They had a price of $425 on it, and I asked if it was a misprint. Told that they would sell for half of that amount or $212.50. I said it was still too much. The fellow asked what I wanted to pay, so I offered him $100, figuring that it had a ridiculous high price, so I would go the other way. Came back with $150, so I bought it. With 40 sockets, ratchet, and extensions, I figured that it was still a good buy. I did wipe off a couple of sockets, and the finish is still good. The one missing socket fell out in my car, and right now, is among the missing. Everything is very dirty, so tomorrow, I will be cleaning it. It has one broken pin on the cover, so I will look into buying a new case, if I can find a part number for it. It is in the on line catalog for $566.50. He even through in a large flat blade SO black handle screwdriver.

I think that was a very good deal.... the ratchets alone typically sell for $40-60 by themselves used; each of the socket sets by themselves sell for $50-$100... yah done good IMHO! :) By the way; what socket are you missing; I'm sure someone on here has a extra! :)

It is the 7/16" one, but it really isn't missing, just under the seat of the car. It is 8 degrees outside today, so there is no way that I am going to go looking for it. I know where it is, and it isn't going to go anywhere.

The part number for the case is probably PB99A. I wasn't crazy about the case because it seemed like everytime I opened it, sockets went flying, so I put the sockets in those mechanics time saver holders.
If you'd like buy or trade for my case send me a PM or email, but they're only $20 on snap-on's web site.

I decide that it is too cold to do anything in the garage, so I washed the case and wiped down all the sockets. It has always amazed me how some people can put away their tools so greasy and dirty. I was taught at an early age to wipe all the tools before putting them back into the box. It is a habit that has stayed with me for the rest of my life.
I do see what was said about this case being a problem with keeping the sockets organized. I bumped the case, and all the deep sockets went flying. I can see some additional Mechanic Timesaver holders in my future.

If your 1/4" stuff is still a little rusty; you should try http://www.evapo-rust.com/ if you havent' already! I put some 1/4" snapon sockets from the 50's and I swear, they almost look like new! It will brighten things up; even if they arn't particularly rusty! Amazing stuff! I got mine @ autozone.... :)

I can't believe they are asking $566 for that set.
I don't want to say "you ****" because I think it's insensitive.
So, "congratulations on a great deal!":bounce:

Ah, come on now; don't think that Junk will get upset over that comment, he has thick skin. In fact, he is probably disappointed that there has not been another "You ****" posting....:lol_hitti

So here it is, You ****....and I'm jealous....:lol_hitti:beer:

I paid almost that much for my s-k set like that. Good buy. I really like those sets because of the sockets. Seems stupid to pay a bunch of money for just sockets alone, but you pay a bunch of money for the sockets, and you get the ratchet, and extensions and all the other goods.
