I'm not bragging here. I'm trying to prove that there are a lot of good deals on lightly used tools on eBay. I've spent a lot of money these past few years building my tool collection and these are just a few examples from the past 10 days that I think are good deals. First are 4 jumbo Gearwrench ratchet wrenches. The 1" 15/16" and 13/16" are reversible while the 7/8" is regular 0 degree offset. I couldn't find a new set of reversible jumbo's, but individually they are approx $30 a piece. I paid $40 and $13.45 shipping to my house. While these are in good shape and function perfectly, they have definitely been worked by the prior owner. Should they ever break, Gearwrench is not a company I feel guilty about warrantying although having purchased them used. So as far as I'm concerned, they are as good as new.
Next is a 5 piece metric set (13, 15, 16, 18, 19) of Mac XL Knucklesaver combination wrenches. Now, a set of 7 from Mac cost over $300 new, but individually the 5 cost between $45 and up to $75 for the larger two. I paid $40 and $10.90 shipping. These things are in really nice shape with no nicks or engravings, heavy scratches, etc. They appear to have very little use.
Then I got a 5 piece set of mechanics length cobalt left hand drill bits from Snap On. I am 99.99% sure they are never used. I couldn't find a price because they're discontinued, but the current 10 piece set from Snap On with spiral flutes goes for $80 online. I paid $35 plus $1.75 shipping. While I was searching for prices, I found this. Check it out its pretty cool https://store.snapon.com/ViewPdf.aspx?sku=DBCL105A&pdfFilename=msds1840.pdf
Lastly, just an FYI for everyone, I picked up a replacement carburetor for my Ryobi multi trimmer. I've had this trimmer for about 4 years and use it part time commercially, because I have a full time job, and it works really well. I use the brush cutter and hedge trimmer attachment constantly. It started running crappy and after cleaning the carb a few times, it was still a little off. After pricing new carbs, I decided why not? I paid $19 for new carb with fuel lines, gaskets, and 2 primer bulbs. Installed it and the thing fired right up and runs great.
So, not counting the carb, I paid $141 for the tools and I think that is a really good deal. Scratches, scuffs, nicks, dings, etc don't bother me when buying used tools. If you take the time to look around and do the research, you can easily find things that are very lightly used, and possibly never used, like the drill bits, for really good prices.
Happy Hunting
Keep in mind, I searched for about a year looking for a good deal on those jumbo Gearwrench ratchet wrenches. As a matter of fact, I only recently purchased the metric set from Northern Tool when they were on sale about a month ago. It just goes to show if you put in the time, you will find those good deals. Of course, I didn't need those items and made due with my regular combo wrenches, but now things will be a bit easier and more fun.
