There is a remarkable software called BUNKSPEED, it is used by Bentley and others to do their catalogs, and it makes a digital image that is very hard to tell from real.. these things look too made up to me. I think the whole thing is a fake.

Some look fake, I know Richard's place is a real garage, unfortunately he details his garage better than I do my cars.

I can't have a place like any of these, I would have burn marks on the floors from welding, my nice paint job would be orange after paint the race car, etc.... I keep it tidy, and organized, but I never had a detailed garage, only time I see it happening is when I die, and they sell off all my stuff.

To each his own, of course. But that kind of hobbying strikes me as being a little like girls building a doll house, except the doll is a car and the scale is 1:1.

It might be Architectural Digest material -- but it looks and feels frozen (and too precious) to my eyes. Like it's all about building an Architectural Digest spread.

For me, the primary purpose of a garage or shop has got to be about function -- it has to be a place where stuff gets done, not a showroom for stuff you've accumulated.

In other words: if you can't knock over a can of oil and then throw a hammer in it, it's just not a garage.

But again, to each his own. I'm sure I do some things that make other guys nuts. I clean mine up before I take pictures, and I have ceramic freakin' tiles under my vintage freakin' sportscar. I'm sure there's some guy with a working forge in his dirt-floored garage who wants to kick my ***.

If these guys want to build perfect little dioramas, then I hope they enjoy themselves.

There's no "work" being done in these garages because no work needs to be done. These people do all their work in private jets, in glass offices, in very old palatial estates. The money is flowing so fast and piling up so high, they have to spend it on the most expensive toys and buildings and rarely even see or use their stuff.
Believe it or not (you don't have to!) I have an uncle - my mom's brother - who is rich like this. Bought into a Mexican cigarette company many years ago. 8 homes, 50 cars, 3 wives (who all get along because the money is so intoxicating!). He "works" (meaning keeps moving) 18 hours a day. The money rolls and the stuff accumulates and accumulates. People tend to all his stuff, all the details.
He may say: "Have the Scuderia ready when I arrive (in France)". Then lands his private jet, takes a limo to the estate and someone has the Ferrari warmed up for a trip to his freinds villa - where they talk about the performance of their shared f1 team. It's so foreign to how my (any of our) minds work....
It's a whole nuther world...and there's no wrenching involved!

I think most not all but most of the people that have that much money fail to see the small things in life that make the rest of us happy. There's more pleasure in saving for years to get that car that we've dreamed of or even building it or restoring it ourselves. Don't get me wrong those are some awesome garages but you'd never find me in one.

I have a 2 car garage w/ small shop area attached, and I wouldn't trade it for any of those "garages"

To me, a garage is a functional thing. I would rather have a garage filled with equipment like mills, lathes and toolboxes than an exotic car.

Cars were nice, but thats as far as my compliments go.

I have no problem with any garages in that thread. I believe if a person wants to work hard enough, take chances, and has the luck to come out with enough money to afford the cars to put in a fancy garage, more power to them!
I have a problem with people that put other people down because they have a nicer house, garage, car, etc.
I'm not pointing fingers at anyone who posted because I don't know you, so don't take my comment personal and rag on me.
I just believe that if a person works hard enough and is lucky enough to afford what they want, let them enjoy it without making them out to be @#$holes.
I know if I had a billion in the bank I would have a garage that would match any of those in that thread!
I am self employed and have worked my **** off getting what I have. My junk doesn't compare to a lamborghini, ferrari, bugatti, porsche, or bentley, but I enjoy what I have.
My point is, don't be jealous if someone has done well for themselves. Not everyone will be able to afford an Enzo, otherwise it would be just another car you see everyday and what fun would that be?

While these places are grand some of the design is a bit corny and in the one place with the coffered ceiling the cheap roll up doors and metal track kill the entire effect.

As far as inferior nah; not one one of these places has a Monarch 10EE or a Mercedes 126 SEC with a M120 V12

The ones I liked best were the prairie style brown brick.

Cool, I'm not the only one. I had to build my barn by myself, and I do "real work" in my shop for sure. But you know what? If all my work eventually cluminates in me being able to do something totally over the top or whatever.. why would I feel bad about that?

I always hear "no real work happens in a nice place" and wonder about that... My barn's a nice place, and plenty of work gets done there.

You're damn right..a garage/shed is for working in. If you want a showroom put it out front...

Yeah I have a nice flash car but the one I really enjoy is in the shed..oops sorry...Garage. That place is a mess with everything I need to build my toy. I don't think anybody would just sit in those flash parking garages and dream and plan the mods and jobs that they would like to do to their special rides.

If I had the money, I would certainly have a showroom-quality area and separate wash bay, but I wouldn't forget the workshop!

I also don't understand the fascination of mixing fancy seating areas with garage space. I can see a few comfortable chairs, but what's all this full kitchen-type; fancy wainscoting stuff that you'll have to hire someone to clean? When are you ever going to use that? I don't get it.

Are you and your friends really going to be hanging out in the garage watching a 50" plasma TV when you also own a high-end theater in the house? I don't think so...but I've never experienced unlimited money.

Additionally, nothing says poser like having 10 Ferrari F50 equivalents in your garage as if to prove your "car guy" bona fides. Real car guys, in my opinion/experience, tend to have a few vehicles that don't make sense to anyone but them.

These places are like the high dollar Foose or Trepanier style cars in the mags. I may never be able to afford one, but I get good ideas from them, and like looking at them.

I really like the courtyard effect with garage doors in several directions. That is something that most people could pull off if they really wanted it. When we build our house, we are going to have a full walkout basement, and I am trying to talk my wife into having a door to pull the race car in between the pool table and bar. She doesn't think it would make such a great conversation piece like I do. We'll see how that works out eventually.

Those are showrooms.

I think a garage should have a lift. There should be a tools chest. There should be grease, oil, and dirt on the floor. An old beat up compressor should be in the corner. You should be able to tell that the owner is using the garage for projects. Garages are meant to be USED, not looked at.

You can tell those owners do a lot of work on cars. I doubt any of them even have 1% of the mechanical knowledge of people on this board. While it would be nice to be able to afford all those cars and estates, that isn't what a garage is supposed to look like.

I agree with sentiments like this to a point. I'm glad you acknowledged luck as part of the equation, because way too many people seem to think that setups like those are the end result of hard work and diligence, rather than winning the genetic lottery.

Personally, I don't bag on those people either for what they have, but I try to keep in perspective that not all of them have necessarily earned it. Luck is by far the biggest factor in becoming that well off. Anyone that tries to tell you otherwise, at least in my experience, has been peddling snake oil (which, of course, is how they get rich[er]).

All said, very nice rides and impressive places.
