I didn't pay too much attention til I read it. I was consumed by the "uniqueness" of the machine. Never seen on like it, wonder why?

Bad idea unless someone pulled the spindle and re-machined the head casting to take angular contact bearings. Not likely to be dangerous, but will kill your head bearings fast.

Also, terrible idea to use a standard jacobs chuck, which can fly off when you really apply some torque (as you do on a lathe). That part is dangerous.

Skip this one.
