I know it is not what a tech, or most guys with a shop would want. It seems the truck brands are the ********* for most guys. If I could pony up the dough, this would be my box.

There are probably configurations available where one or two drawers are taller, for bulkier stuff. That's the one change I'd make. But I love that instead of one or two wide drawers, there are thirteen! I have a Vidmar, so I know how much weight this style of box can hold in each drawer, too! They are built like Panzers.

It looks to have about the same storage as a KRL1022/1201 combo at 15% of the cost.

You better go get it!!

Why is all the good stuff back East:sad:

That would be ideal, wouldn't it? I've been tracking them in this size off and on for a while. Based on that, you should be able to get a Vidmar for about $1000 to $1300 in good shape. The one you linked seems to me to be pretty high. I like that the Lista has full width handle while the Vidmar's handles aren't full width.

I am with you , Bull.

I can only dream about Lista or Vidmar cabinets for tool boxes or benches.

Steve, you have a ridicu-tastic setup already! Did that whole deal cost much less than this one box?

Glad to see I am not alone in my appreciation for this piece. :rocker:

I wish I could go get it. No way I can justify or afford such an extravagance. I just like to look at these things to give myself a brain *****.

But I like your point about the relative cost. You can get BIG Lista/Vidmar boxes for a small fraction of what a lot of the truck boxes cost.

I also agree about this one being priced a bit high, but he says it is nearly new. I have seen similarly massive Lista/Vidmar stuff on CL (not near me) for much less money.

Agreed.

Steveo, when I get rich I'll buy you a Lista and trade you for your set up.:rocker:

Used to have about 20 of them at my old job and I loved them! I'm pushing my boss at my new job (my avatar) to get some.

I picked up the tan Vidmar in this pic for $200 in the spring. I felt like an utter pimp. My whole life up to that point, the biggest box I had was of the 26" Craftsman variety, also visible in the pics. When I got the Vidmar, I could not believe the stiffness of the steel and the quality of the drawers. The box is narrower than I'd like and doesn't fit all my tools, but it has taken my organization to a place I never thought I could get. What kind of SO box does $200, or even $800 get you?!

Those Lista and Vidmar drawers will hold twice the weight of a truck box. The only thing that compares to them is a Steelcase file cabinet, which is a battleship in it's own right.

Well, how come they could never position themselves properly in the auto tech field? Does it come down to the issue of ease of financing/relationship with dealer that the trucks offer?

because these don't have the personalities as the tool truck boxes.

I got my first Vidmar couple months ago, $300 and 8 feet tall. now I'm not looking back.

I'd get this Equipto over an $800 Snap On any day. all you have to add is casters.

I don't have a straight answer for you on that one. They've always marketed their products to large institutions like automotive manufacturers and the military. Their cabinets are built to withstand the rigors of multiple users all day long. A truck toolbox could never survive in an environment like that. You can load a drawer up full of brake rotors and slam the drawer and the cabinet won't be fazed at all.

Maybe I'm retarded, but we have some Vidmar cabinets at work to hold special tools, and I'm not at all impressed. It's at a Chrysler dealer and they got them thru Chrysler. I don't think they are anything special. They seem kinda flimsy. Maybe there are different levels or series and we got the cheap ones? Any ways, they have cabinets on top and we have some tools stacked up there and now you can't open or close the cabinets because they sag from the weight. I don't know what gauge the sheet metal is but its definitely thinner than my tool box.

Most of the Formula 1 teams use Lista/Fami cabinets both in the factory in the trucks and in the pits.

Thats what I would buy next, I love the simplicity of the drawer dividers.

I read a story about a new F1 mechanic at Benetton, he was given the job of looking after the brakes and set about organising his Lista cabinet with some new dividers, he went to the stores and took some nice looking aluminium sheet metal and set about chopping it up with the guillotine to make the dividers. The storeman noticed what he was doing and asked him if he knew what the material was, it turned out to be a very expensive mistake :)

The storeman told him not to worry about it and the mechanic went on to win the world championship working with Mr Schumachers car.

Are you sure they are Vidmar, and not a foreign knockoff? Look at the label closely, and maybe you'll find that it says "Vidman" or something. :lol_hitti Seriously though, my Vidmar is not at all like you describe.

I'd say that you got a pretty terrific deal on that box for $600. I will also say that, at least around here, that deal is rarer than hens' teeth. I look at CL multiple times a day, and have for a couple years now, and never see anything like that deal for SO.

Actually, the used Lista is slightly less than my entire toolbox/workbench setup, but I don't have 28" deep drawers that hold 350# apiece.
Then again, I would never have been able to build a workbench/tool storage setup using Lista. Maybe one box, and no bench.

The UK used toolbox market seems to be pretty much a buyer's market. eBay throws up roughly one of these combos every week. I've been watching for 8 weeks and they've ranged from £360 ($550ish) for a clean plain Red set to £650 ($1000) for an as new Corvette 40th in Teal. (I've bought 2 sets in red, this one and another not so clean, going to paint them Satin Black anyway)

Spotted a spotless Black Corvette set in SoCal last week for $950 BIN, was sorely tempted as I'll be in NorCal in a couple of weeks and I could use a stack for my place out there, but then I worked out the gas would cost me half that again in my truck.

I bought my two stanley vidmar cabinets at auction for 1200$ then cut one apart to build my tool box. I love it, would never consider some thing els as my toolbox.
