When you find your favorite one gallon sprayer stuck in a corner and you fill it with potent weed killer .......... always check it for pinholes through the bottom.
One time, my former father in law borrowed my Scotts drop spreader to fertilize his lawn. He didn't realize that I always opened the spreader wide open when I washed it out. He started by the deck and got about 10 feet or so before the spreader was empty. Nice brown grass.
Many years ago I opened the drain to let out water on the fuel filter on a diesel riding mower where I worked at the time. I ended up opening the drain all the way instead of closing it. The mower left a stream of diesel on the grass until it ran out of fuel. A few days later there were streaks of dead grass from the leaking diesel.
I had to figure out how to re-prime the diesel engine when it ran out of fuel. We didn't want to have to admit to the mechanic that it ran out of fuel.
Been There; Done That. If I ever again own a diesel, I will remember that it is better to stop at a grocery sore and buy some vegetable oil than to run out of fuel.
