Drywall. Just based on asking local forum, this was the full service drywall/insulation company I went with. "Free delivery" (over certain amount), but if you timed your stages right; I did one stage insulation, then called them back for drywall. It's a whole lot better than hauling it yourself from Home Depot/Lowes.

Some costly garage openers, but, I think worth it (for looks, quiet operation)

Man, you move at warp speed! It's really taking shape.

Well, and this catches up my uploads to current stage. Full primer, before final paint, trims, dress-up.

Today (June 11, 2015) work...

In between friends visiting and wanting me to work on their cars.

Did that (Red M5 above) today, and this... painted gas line yellow, I just like the official "look/feel". This Tremclad paint kinda *****, but just happens the yellow was on sale at my local Canadian Tire for $5 a pint. (to Americans, that's kinda like Target I guess, on a smaller scale, but much cooler stuff geared towards tools, sporting goods, Canadian stuff, etc...) Will probably take another few coats to make it solid yellow.

And then today, also sent half of these off to a welder (friend) for some fab work. Not gonna tell you gents till it's done. $800 worth :( Hopefully I won't let you guys down.

Current date (June 15, 2015), not playing catch up on uploads.

Kind of "FEELS" like the final stretch of the garage, but yet the finish line is so far away (from my vision). So just multi tasking, bouncing around doing different stuff within the garage.

I started using these industrial racks you get from Lowes/Home Depot few years ago in past garage, warehouse. Between the ones I current have, and bought new ones. I'm going to stick with 4 altogether, plus adding some caster wheels so I can make this a "floating garage" (i.e. no built in shelves)

The reason I'm not doing built in shelves, is that the clearance between my door and a vehicle is so tight.

IMG_0160_zpsdxmbo1am.jpg~original

Anyway, got 2 out of 4 racks back from the welder yesterday. I know they kind of look like a Home Depot's garden centre, lol. Hopefully later on, I'll customize them more, dress them up. (i.e. sliding doors, full enclosure, etc...)

Think this process is good (actually should had done this step before doing insulation and drywall), but moving forward, once I get all 4 racks on wheels. Will actually make finishing painting a breeze. (still in primer now)

For the cost. These racks range from $137-180+ Cdn, pending where you go. Wheels were quite a bit $50 each so $200. BUT, my take is, for $350 ish... you're getting a moveable heavy duty storage unit. (racks are 2,000 lbs per shelf rated, casters dynamic tested 800 lbs each, so 3,200 lbs total) But just looking at my residential household items, I don't even think I'll go over 600-800 lbs total.

Great solution for a flexible set-up. But won't these flex when pulled/driven lengthways? Or is there some triangulation in the shelves?

Surprisingly they're pretty sturdy providing its loaded up. And given there're no kids in the household so I'm ok accepting calculated risk. If there're kids I'd probably remove the casters, or just bolt them against the studs when that situation arise.

Got the last two racks caster welded, and painted white. (2 factory silver, 2 were black but for a small garage I think white is more welcoming and softer)

These racks on casters are so useful, would had done it from the get-go if I known I was going with a moveable shop. (was going to do built-in shelves but I like the potential to use this setup 2-3 years and see how things go)

At least now I can paint with ease, right/left side at a time.

Installed the TV's. I know this is a crowd that won't judge for having 2 in the garage. (eventually it's going to be a white theme garage, so even TV frame were purchased white, going to just vinyl wrap the TV white as much as I can, same with toolbox)

Just did the trim for the attic door, just didn't like the way the drywall cut isn't straight and side exposed drywall when you open the latch.

My budget solution was to just use the 90 degree from those drop down ceiling tracks, easy to cut, pre-coated white, low profile. ("WAS" going to trim it like door and window, but went against that cause I think it'll just draw way too much attention to the ceiling for no reason)

IMG_0413_zpsnjp9mxgb.jpg~original

If I had a choice, I wouldn't put screws into the tracks (just used PL-400 construction adhesive, but just don't want the track ripping apart when the hatch open/close, there's only 1/8" or less tolerance on some parts of the hatch. Even though it's a pre-framed kit, maybe the way I squared it, etc... that's just how it turned out)

IMG_0410_zpsrrfbpdom.jpg~original

I'm pretty bad for OCD (at least to the extent, I only want to do things a specific way how I like, may not necessarily be professional or 110% great looking, but I just like doing procedures and measurements my way, if that makes sense)

During the 3rd coat, noticed a screw that didn't belong. (all of them are Robertson #3, one is off Robertson #2)...
IMG_0414_zpsfgg7mhuf.jpg~original

And murphy's law, ran out of the length (1-5/8" for Robertson #3. But I'd rather grind my own, just to have matching head size.) That one off (one out of 10) would just bug me mentally more (of knowing), then visually anyone's actually gonna notice or care. :(

Doing the moldings around the door, and the two windows. Had to grab these from specific lumber stores instead of Home Depot/Lowes/Rona (Canadian) big box stores just don't have that board of selection; so glad I drove around and looked for them instead of being lazy and did "oh whatever looks close enough from Home Depot). Just so I can follow the same molding scheme as what the house flipper seller used in the house.

Some minor finishings day. During the build, didn't know where to put the switch/splitters for coxial and Cat5 (input from main house, need to split to two outlets in garage)... Hindsight, could had put in crawlspace.

Either it'll be cable TV (coxial), or TV over Cat5. Right now I'm using cable.

I'll send you a beauty shot of me for that ikea frame. Free of charge.

I enjoy your attention to all details.

That could be an option to explorer. Actually, might get more small frames like that to dress up that wall now at this point.

More finishing touches day, minor things just drive me nuts.

Tidy. Well done. I have done the same thing using black conduit in my space. The white looks good given the design theme you are going with.

Slow progress, just busy with work. Continuing through with the white-out process, managed to hire a professional (automotive) vinyl guy on the weekend to do the toolbox, I did the easy time consuming individual drawers, he did the 1 piece on the chest. He's still gotta come back for the long drawer, and border of the TV's

Really enjoyed all of the little touches to clean things up.

Sorry about lack of update. Family emergency and just being easily distracted at this point. (flooring would be last)

IMG_1320_zpsnar7zdwa.jpg~original

But I, ummmmmm, kinda got my eye for another (garage) property lol... once life calms down a bit. Not sure if I'm going thru, really tempted, it's a little pricey per square footage in this city.

How cool! I was wondering when Calgary would get a facility such as this. Let us know if you pull the trigger. I'd be interested to see the 17 x 37' private wash bay. Sounds like Nirvana.

Another developer already built The Den by springbank a few years ago. Not sure how they're doing, think they've been up and running since 2011/2012. But never seen them up for re-sale.

Well, putting a stop for house garage improvements. Seeing my regular day job seasonal work is about to start.

And it's official, kinda got bored with the house project, so ummmm, I kinda bought a unit in phase 1 on www.thevaults.ca

thevaults_zpseg5gnlt1.jpg~original

Just a 24' by 50' nice and small size for self use. Possession/phase1 completion set for October 31, 2016

Builder's already done grading, dug out for footing. (last time I was at site around first week of June). Currently they should be pouring for footings.

Just stumbled upon this thread today. Very nice garage. I love all the white as it makes it so much brighter. Regarding the racks, did you strip them before painting them white? Where did you purchase them from. Many of the storage racks I see have a heavy textured paint to it which I am not sure will look good with a white over top.

Bob

I got mine from Home Depot... but they also sell them at Costco, Princess Auto, Rona (Lowe's bought them out)

With the racks, I just cheaped out, used household white paint (with sprayer), prepped with drywall primer lol. Didn't even sandblast or sand. I figure once I move them to the Vault warehouse, I can bring 'em to a bodyshop and get 'em painted properly. It's just that at the time, I didn't have a company color I'd like to stuck with (still don't), so thought I'd make it plain white the cheapest way I could.

A friend living North of Calgary snapped some photos for me as of June 29, 2016 of the Vaults site.

Wanted to check out TheVaults site on Canada Day. (July 1, 2016 update)

Looks like they're prepping to pour footings for phase 1, clubhouse area here.
