Don't know but if its cheap enough I'd buy it. It looks old and good heavy duty quality. Pretty cool

8 man: I've got a few of their 1/4 HP aluminum grinders and some other Thor tools and they are old school quality. i doubt you'll find a new guard for the one broken and missing on the left side, but at $30 i'd probably buy it. i'd turn the left side into either a buffer, wire wheel or deburring wheel.

of course i'd like to hear it run to buy it and if no strange sounds it would go home with me. if it doesn't run or has issues it's not a Baldor so i'd probably pass.

Same here. That's worth getting just for looks alone.

The styling seems somewhat similar to the old Van Dorn gear, which later became part of B&D. Might be a chance you could adapt parts from one of those to suit.

I've got the 7" version of that. Love it. Very nice grinder. I did a refurb thread on it, really only had to replace the bearings and cord. It's a real deal tool!! Keith

Grumpy ******. :D They're cute. :D

Just trying to be practical. You know I love the old stuff as much as any, but these are just not worth it for the OP. Nothing against the OP, but a person that possess the skills/knowledge to restore those to working order, would not have to ask the question in the first place.

If the 1st one was a 1/2hp it would be a different story as it could be used for wire wheel or the like that does not require a full guard. The combination of negatives just kills the potential. In my opinion.

Wasn't disagreeing as such. Those are fair points. :) It's a good learning/practice piece, the first one though, even if it never sees full restoration. For the price, no major risk/loss even if it ends up becoming just a parts pile piece. It just looks too damned nice to resist. :D
