Anyone around that collects or has interest in the tools made by "Thor Power Tool" company?

This is my Thor Silverline, model # 6304, 5/16 Drill. It sounds like a Jet engine starting up. You have to hold the handle tight because if the drill bit sticks, it can wrench your wrist. I don't know how old it is, I bought it at a Flea Market some years ago for five bucks.

Got an ancient Thor 3/4" man killer drill. I cut off the cord and left about a 1' pigtail with plug. If it gets away, it will come unplugged....in theory at least.
The thing sounds godawful, and has for as long as I can remember. Think it says 1939 on the tag.

In the late 1960s I bought this Thor, the smallest 1/4" drill made. It uses silicon diodes to supply DC to the motor, and a permanent-magnet field instead of windings.

Alan, my friend has one of those tiny Thor 1/4" drills and they are neat! I've been looking for one for myself just because they are so small. Nice drill.

Yes, it was made by Kingston-Conley, same maker for Atlas, Walker-Turner, Skil, and others. I just picked up the exact model as yours over the weekend labeled as Skil. Great grinders, and the same as used in the Frankenstein you seen in my avatar.

I would take a lot of pictures and measure precisely where the graphics belong. I would trace the graphics with tracing paper and then take a sample of the original paint, if possible, and match it. Sometimes you can find the colors, other times you can get really close.

I would give the box the same treatment as any vise restoration and drop it in a tank to get the paint off. Any body work and fixes would come once all the paint is gone.

After that, the painting would take place, complete with a nice 200 degree bake in an oven.

Now you have me itching to find something to clean up/restore. Hehe.

TH: good ideas and i was thinking of just wiping down with WD 40 and leaving the original patina. i can't recall if I've plugged in the drill or if the wire was toast, but i do like Thor brand products.

thanks for the suggestion and good luck on your search. i bought this from a gal that was cleaning out a house she was selling of her parents and i think she said it was in an old paint storage closet and was in there since the late 50's.

It does look nice enough to preserve as is. It's only original once as the saying goes. Either way, that box speaks to me and it's beautiful. Excellent grab.

Since you brought it up... I have had this lying around for a while and figured I would share. It was given to my by my dad quite a few years ago. He said it didn't work. I would like to rebuild it if parts are available, mostly just to try it and know that I can.

But first I need a little help identifying it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have spent hours, like maybe 10 or more trying to locate schematics for Thor air tools to no avail.
Seen this post, so thought I would join in.
I need schematics for around 10 units, I have somewhere around 5,000 parts for several brands, and it is a mess.
Bought two pallets of air tool parts about 5 years ago and am on my third week trying to sort the stuff out.
Can't read half the numbers and most don't have the model number on the bags, but some do.
Ever been to the hardware store and someone is always putting the part back in the wrong slot?
There were over 100 drawers that measure 6x5x18 long filled to the top and I'm down to about 20 in Chicago, 5 in Ingersoll, 10 in Aro, 10 in Thor, 4 in Sioux, 1 in Top Cat, and 1 in Eagle Industries, then about 8 drawers of mixed parts that I need drawings to know where to put them.
Most all of these parts have no schematics available, maybe 5 or 6 at the most.
I should be able to have a complete list in another day or so of the brands and model numbers and I will post them at this thread, but until I can find schematics for each one, I'll never get it done completely.

Figured I would bump this up. I ended up with this sweet Thor hand grinder from a school auction (which begs the question what is the world coming to when this kind of tool is still allowed in a school ).

Drill still going strong. Using in the shop. 3/4 cap. can change to # 3 Morse taper. The other container is Misc. Old Thor and Cp grinders. The drill is one that was made in the plant in Aurora Ill.
